The elevator doors open and I walk out, heading to my office that Ace and I were sharing. Today I was wearing a black suit with red heels, my hair up in a slick pulled back ponytail.
After waiting hours last night at the restaurant where Ace never showed up for our dinner date that HE invited me to, I was slightly annoyed.
Maybe he had a reasonable explanation for this so I decided to wait and see him today in the office at work to talk about it.
I walk into the office and turn to see Leila, Ace's PA packing up his things from his desk in a box.
"Leila?""
"Good Morning Mrs. Anderson" she responds with a smile "
"W-why are you packing up Ace's things?" I question
"Oh, Mr. Anderson decided to move to another empty office, he said he wanted to give you more space and asked me to move his things" she says
More space... Are you serious??
I stand there, not sure how to reply
"Oh." I simply say
"I thought he had told you, my apologies. Would you like me to inform him that you arrived" Leila askS
"No!" I say a little too quickly
I clear my throat and calm myself down
"No need, thank you Leila"I say with a smile and sit at my desk, opening my emails
What happened last night? Why didn't he ever show up and why is he now moving to another room!? I wasn't sure what his problem was. I felt hurt but now I was masking my feelings with anger...
A couple hours of working, I decided to head to the break room to make myself a cup of coffee. I walk over to the coffee machine and grab a mug.
I start to pour my coffee when I suddenly hear Ace's voice getting louder and louder.
He walks into the break room with another employee and they were talking about work. Stirring my coffee, I turn and we make eye contact, but I quickly look away.
He keeps on talking with the employee, not even acknowledging that I was here, not bringing up the situation from last night and not even caring to talk to me in general so I grab my mug and just walk out, ignoring him.
I'm not sure what his problem was but now I was really pissed off.

I knew after Alex not showing up to dinner last night, it was time to give her the space she needed. First thing I did this morning was move to one of the empty offices.
It was only right and fair to her. I didn't want to be more of a burden than I already was to her. When I walked into the break room this morning and saw her making herself some coffee, I was a bit surprised that she didn't say anything.
She wouldn't even make eye contact. She just ignored me and walked out of the break room. I'm not sure why she seemed angry. If anything, I was angry that after planning the dinner date, she didn't show up.
Even though I had a strong feeling that she would, well at least those were the vibes I was getting from her at the gala last night.
Should I go talk to her? Or just give her some space?I decide to shake away the thoughts and head back to my new private office. I work on a few new files, reply to a few emails and do a couple phone meetings.
A few hours pass, when I hear a knock on my door, I looked up and to my surprise, it was Veronica walking in with a bag of food.
"Ace darling, how are you?" she asks walking up to the front of my desk, taking a seat in the empty chairs
"Veronica? W-why are you here?" I ask a bit confused
"I called Leila and she told me you had no plans for lunch so.. Here I am!" she says with a big smile and starts to lay out the food
"Thanks but I have a lot of work to do and besides, Im not hungry" I say trying to get rid of her in the nicest way possible
"Nonsense! You can take a break, sit and eat" she says
I internally sigh and take a seat
"New office huh? I like it, needs some redecorating but not a bad amount of space" she says looking around
"Ya" I simple say
Again I wasn't really in the mood for Veronica, but it didn't seem like she was leaving anytime soon
"So how was the gala last night? You-" she's cut off when
Leiyla walks in.
"Sorry to interrupt but sir, I just wanted to confirm tonight's dinner with Mr. Sheppard and his wife?" she says
"I didn't know that was tonight!" I say looking at my calendar
"Yes, I asked you and Mrs. Anderson a few days ago and you both confirmed to set the meeting for today shall I go ahead and confirm it with them?" she asks
John Sheppard was a good friend and business partner of mine. He was interested in branching a part of Anderson tech and he also was one of the first people who requested to meet with Alex and I after he heard about the news and the whole 'dead' misunderstanding..
I couldn't cancel this dinner, even if it meant Alex and I having to go together...
"Yes go ahead and confirm it. Also notify Alex" I say
Leila nods her head and walks out
"Speaking of Alex, how are things going with both of you? I mean I understand how difficult it must have been for her, which makes sense considering what both of you are going through..." Veronica says.
I raise an eyebrow confused
"What are you talking about?" I question
"Aren't you guys separating?" she asks
I look at her with anger in my eyes, as her words start to form together
"What?"
"I've heard both of you aren't living together anymore, ever since you came back and she's not wearing a ring so I just thought maybe it's not-" I cut her off
"Veronica get out" I try to say as calmly as possible
"Ace...I-I didn't mean to upset you, I understand it can be hard and-"
"Get out" I say again
"I, I just thought maybe you would need a friend during this difficult time, I'm always here for you" she says and tries to touch my shoulder but I grab her wrist
"Don't you EVER meddle into my private life matters and act as if you know what is going on. Get out RIGHT NOW" I yell this time, letting go of her wrist
"But Ace I-"
"GET OUT"
She quickly grabs her things, looks at me with hurt in her eyes and heads out the door.
Funny... she wasn't hurt leaving the door when she left me during the lowest point in my life a couple years ago...

Sitting at my desk, I couldn't focus anymore. I HAD to talk to him and find out what the problem was so I walk out of my office and head to where his new office was. I walk upto the doors and see Leila walking out.
"Mrs. Anderson, can I help you?" she asks
"Leila I was just going to speak with Ace is he-" I stop talking when I see Veronica sitting in front of his desk and eating, through the half opened door.
[- what was she doing here? Why was she here? Eating with Ace? "Alex?" Leila calls
I snap out of my thoughts and close my mouth, which was slightly left open-
"He's having lunch with Ms. Veronica but I can tell him you're here to-" I cut her off
"No need, it's not important anyway" I say
I quickly turn, about to leave before Leila cals me again.
"Wait, Alex tonight you and Mr. Anderson have a dinner with a future branch operator, John Sheppard and his wife. I've confirmed the appointment and wanted to let you know" she says
"Uh- have you told Ace?" I ask
"Yes, he's the one who confirmed it" she says
Okay.. So he wont show up to the dinner he invited me too but he'll confirm going out to this dinner? I'm so confused and pissed.
I nod my head and decide to go to David's office.
I knock on his door and walk in, seeing him sitting at his desk, on the phone with a client.
He lookS surprised to see me and quickly ends the conversation on the phone.
"Alex? What can I do for you?" he asks standing up, looking a bit nervous
"Davidddddd, wanna go out for lunch right now?" I ask
He looks behind me, as if checking to see if anyone was there.
"-just the two of us?" he asks
"Ya... do you have any plans?" I ask
"W-wellI have a lot of work and don't think I can g." I cut him off
"Come on... it's just lunch! We always go out for lunch" I say with a pout
"Im sorry Alex, I just have a lot of work to do and don't think I can go" he says with a final and serious expression.
David was kind of acting weird lately which was a bit strange
I open my mouth to speak but someone else's voice Comes out-
I turn around and see Ace walking in, with a very angry and clearly annoyed expression
"We need to go" he says coldly, mostly looking at David
"Not now." I say, looking back at David
"We NEED to go" he says again more demanding
"David, I'll be back" I say with an awkward smile and we get out of his office
"Where?" I ask
He doesn't answer me but just grabs my arm and walks me out
"Let go of my arm" I say but he continues pulling me to the elevator doors
"Ace! Where are we going?" I ask again trying to pull my arm away from his hand but it was no use, he was only gripping it tighter the more I pulled.
We get to his car and he opens the door for me to get in but I just stand there in front of him, angry
"Get in" he says
"No"
"GET IN" He says again with his voice raised, this was the first time I had seen him act angry..like the old Ace kind of angry.
"Im not getting in until you tell me where the hell were
GOING" I say mere inches away from his face.
We both look at each other, anger in our voices but something else in our eyes...
"We're going to buy you a ring"
