It was humiliating standing there when I knew the women were referring to me even though they didn't know it. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me alive.
"A girl that young must have some daddy issues to be with Milo. I heard she isn't even twenty yet," a woman said. "You're lucky he always comes back to you every single time. He will never replace you. He was crazy to think that he ever could."
The women laughed and hauled a bunch of insults that they didn't even know I was standing right next to Tatiana. I wondered how she thought I felt when her friends said all those nasty things about me while I said nothing.
"Men are always replacing us with other versions of ourselves. I mean, you could have the real thing if you wanted. Why would you want to replace the original with a lesser version?"
Was that what I was? Was I a lesser version of Tatiana? Was that what she had been trying to convey to me the entire time we were at the brunch?
