Chapter 124: Captain Mirai, Have You Lost Your Mind?!

Upon hearing Orochimaru's words, Manda rumbled in a low voice, "Let's get one thing straight. If you're planning to go after Mirai, don't count on me."

Orochimaru raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued.

"Manda, you're full of surprises. I would've thought you'd despise Mirai-kun."

Manda snorted. "Despise him? Sure. But I'd rather live."

"From the moment I was born in Ryūchi Cave, my instincts have never been wrong. That brat, Uchiha Mirai, is not someone to mess with."

Orochimaru gave a casual wave of his hand, as if losing interest. "Suit yourself."

"But hear me, Orochimaru," Manda hissed. "The sacrifices you provide me had better be fresh. Try to fob me off with some half-rotted corpse again, and you'll regret it."

With that, Manda's massive form vanished into the shadows. Orochimaru, clutching a scroll, began heading toward his base.

He knew full well that Mirai was dangerous.

But so what?

If he backed down every time something seemed dangerous, he wouldn't be Orochimaru. Those who dared to exploit him would pay the price someday.

That evening, Mirai returned home early. Mikoto wasn't here yet, so he decided to prepare dinner himself.

Although Mikoto's cooking was good, Mirai had always found his own creations more to his liking.

Perhaps it was time to teach Mikoto a few recipes...

While lost in thought, Mirai was startled by a familiar voice outside.

"Captain Mirai, may I come in?"

"Come in."

At his invitation, Shisui entered, heading straight for the kitchen. Without hesitation, he grabbed a set of chopsticks and a bowl.

"Captain, I haven't eaten yet, so I'll be helping myself."

Mirai sighed, exasperated.

He was certain Shisui had deliberately timed his visit, knowing dinner would be ready.

Still, Mirai didn't mind. Shisui's loyalty was unwavering, and letting him share a meal was a small price to pay.

"Shisui, hold off for now. We're waiting for someone."

Shisui paused, surprised, but obediently set his chopsticks down.

"Is there something you need to report, Shisui?"

Straightening up, Shisui responded firmly. "Captain, I've eliminated everyone on the list. And..."

"I've awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan."

As he spoke, his dark eyes shifted into the intricate pattern of the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Mirai nodded slightly. "Impressive."

Shisui blinked, surprised. "Captain, you don't seem shocked at all."

Mirai chuckled. "I already told you how to awaken it. Sending you to eliminate those hardliners was part of the plan."

Shisui smiled wryly. "Captain, sometimes it feels like you've already thought of everything."

He continued, voice full of admiration. "I'm truly glad someone like you leads the Uchiha. Without you..."

Mirai cut him off with a raised hand. "Enough flattery. What ability does your Mangekyō grant you?"

"Captain," Shisui answered promptly, "it's called Kotoamatsukami. It lets me infiltrate someone's mind without them noticing and completely alter their will—permanently."

Mirai murmured thoughtfully, "The Eye of Dominion, turning all who see it into your puppets..."

"Exactly, Captain!" Shisui exclaimed. "Your description is even more accurate than mine."

Mirai's expression remained calm. "Shisui, now that you've awakened the Mangekyō, we'll need to spar soon. Also, this news must be spread. Your Kotoamatsukami will be a cornerstone of our clan's resurgence."

Publicizing Shisui's new abilities would further bolster the Uchiha's reputation, putting even more pressure on Hiruzen and his allies.

As the two spoke, the door opened.

Mikoto entered, freezing momentarily when she saw Shisui.

Shisui tensed, instinctively pulling out a kunai and lunging at her.

"Shisui, stop!"

The blade halted mere inches from Mikoto's neck.

Voice icy, Shisui demanded, "Mikoto, what are you doing here?"

"I-I..." Mikoto stammered, at a loss for words. She couldn't exactly say she'd come to take care of Mirai.

"Admit it—you're here to assassinate Captain Mirai!"

Shisui's killing intent surged.

Mirai stepped forward, delivering a light slap to the back of Shisui's head.

"From now on, call her Lady Mikoto. Understand?"

Shisui stared, dumbfounded, as Mirai led Mikoto to the dining table.

What was happening?

Still in shock, Shisui regained some clarity, his eyes narrowing as he watched Mikoto.

"Captain, she's trying to manipulate you into freeing Fugaku. You can't fall for it!"

"Relax, Shisui," Mirai said coolly. "Mikoto has seen the future of the Uchiha. She's chosen to stand with me."

He smirked. "From now on, she's my woman."

Mikoto blushed deeply, lowering her gaze in silence.

Shisui felt his heart sink.

Captain Mirai, have you lost your mind?!

Mirai's sharp glare snapped Shisui out of his daze.

"Shisui, do you have a problem with this?"

Dropping to his knees, Shisui replied hastily, "Captain, I would never question your decisions."

Turning to Mikoto, he bowed deeply. "Lady Mikoto, I apologize for my rudeness. Please punish me as you see fit."

Face still flushed, Mikoto steadied herself. "No need for that. You were only protecting Captain Mirai."

With the tension resolved, Mirai clapped his hands. "Alright, everyone's here. Let's eat."

Shisui's mood brightened instantly as he grabbed his chopsticks, devouring the food with unrestrained enthusiasm.

Watching Shisui's eagerness, Mikoto picked up her own chopsticks, sampling a dish.

Her eyes widened.

It was delicious.

So unbelievably good!
