"Where... am I?"
Yugito Nii opened her eyes, her expression dazed. But in the next moment, her pupils constricted sharply.
The memory of her heart convulsing during her death flashed vividly in her mind, as if it were happening all over again. Her breathing grew labored, and her heart pounded violently in her chest.
Gasping for air, Yugito felt like she was drowning.
Suddenly, a warm hand rested gently on her head, steadying her. A soft push brought her into an embrace that radiated comfort and security.
"Yugito, you're safe now. There's no need to worry."
The low, steady voice was calm yet carried an inexplicable sense of reassurance.
Yugito froze for a moment, her scattered thoughts slowly returning to reality.
"Uchiha... Mirai?"
She murmured his name, but the realization hit her like a bolt of lightning. Her face turned pale as she quickly pulled away from his embrace.
"Lord Mirai, I didn't mean to address you so directly. Please forgive me!"
Seeing her panic, Mirai smiled faintly.
"It's fine. From now on, you don't need to worry about your status anymore," he said.
"Go and experience the life of an ordinary person."
At his words, Yugito instinctively checked her own chakra. To her astonishment, the presence of the Two-Tails was gone. Tears streamed silently down her cheeks as she dropped to her knees, bowing deeply.
"Thank you!"
Since childhood, Yugito had been chosen as the jinchūriki of the Two-Tails. Her early memories were shrouded in darkness. Though she eventually formed a pact with the Two-Tails and became a perfect jinchūriki, her life was tightly restricted.
Her movements were closely monitored by Kumo's ANBU, and the only time she felt freedom was on the battlefield during war. Even then, it was fleeting.
She had long wished for a normal life, but she knew such dreams were impossible. Losing a tailed beast meant death—her fate as a jinchūriki had been sealed from the start.
Yet, against all odds, Uchiha Mirai had removed the beast from her and brought her back to life, granting her a new beginning.
"Mirai-sama, I owe you more than I can ever repay," she said, her voice trembling with gratitude.
"From now on, I pledge my life to your service."
Mirai regarded her calmly. "Yugito, there's only one thing I need from you. If you can do this, your debt will be repaid."
She raised her head, her expression confused. "What is it?"
"Become my woman."
Mirai's words were direct, his tone unwavering.
"A family helps each other—there's no need to dwell on debts of gratitude," he added.
Yugito froze, her face flushing bright red.
"Mirai...sama, you're... very straightforward," she stammered.
Seeing her hesitation, Mirai pressed further. "You're not willing?"
"No!" she blurted, shaking her head. "I'm willing! My life is yours. Whatever you ask of me, I will do."
Satisfied, Mirai nodded and patted his lap. Yugito hesitated for only a moment before sitting down gingerly.
"Yugito," Mirai said, "the shinobi world will soon be mine. I need trustworthy people to help maintain order. You and Samui are among the ones I've chosen."
"Samui?" Yugito echoed, surprised.
Mirai nodded. "She's my woman too."
Yugito felt a mixture of embarrassment and surprise. She and Samui had been close friends since childhood. She hadn't expected this development.
Curiosity got the better of her. "Mirai-sama, how many... family members do you have now?"
Mirai's smile was faint. "The exact number doesn't matter. Across the shinobi world, I have family in Konoha, Sunagakure, Kumogakure... Soon, there will be family in Kirigakure and Iwagakure too."
"You should focus on standing out among them," he added with a chuckle. "After all, the resources of this world will be mine to distribute. The better you manage your region, the better your people will live."
Yugito wrapped her arms around his neck, her lips brushing against his ear as she whispered,
"Understood. Samui and I will do our best to satisfy you."
After spending a week in Kumogakure, Mirai returned to Konoha.
Rebuilding the village would take time, even with aid from the Fire and Wind countries. That task, he decided, was best left to Samui and Yugito.
As he approached the bustling streets of Konoha, a small smile played on his lips. The vibrant village reminded him of the life he was shaping.
Releasing the tailed beasts from within him, he allowed Matatabi, Isobu, Gyūki, and Kurama to roam freely. Then, he stopped by a sweets shop, purchasing a variety of treats, along with some clothing and jewelry.
Finally, he made his way home.
Laughter greeted him as he entered the courtyard. The familiar voices stirred something warm in his heart.
As he stepped closer, he spotted Konan, Uchiha Mikoto, and Rinko gathered around a table, engrossed in a game of cards—one he had taught them called "Landlord."
(T/N: Rinko - the most prestigious woman in the Land of Fire: the Daimyō's eldest daughter and the country's true princess.)
When they noticed him, their faces lit up with joy.
Konan and Mikoto rushed to his side, while Rinko nearly tripped over her elaborate robes.
"Rinko, you don't need to stick to the old customs from the daimyō's court. Wear something simpler," Mirai said, shaking his head.
Rinko bowed slightly. "But you once said my attire pleased you. If that's my only value, then I must uphold it, no matter the inconvenience."
Mirai considered her words and nodded in agreement. Each of them had their unique charm—he wouldn't want them to lose it.
"Mirai, have you eaten yet?" Konan and Mikoto chimed in together.
With a mischievous grin, he replied, "No need to fuss. You're all I need for dinner."
