Chapter 104 Book 3 Outnumbers but not Outmatched

The clash erupted like it was dawn's first light piercing through the dense forest canopy. It was the rain of arrows that came first, darkening the sky like a flock of crows. The twang of bowstrings filled the air, followed by the whistling rush of projectiles. The 500 guards, clad in gleaming armor and armed with discipline and precision, had anticipated the attack. Shields were raised in unison, creating a barrier that deflected most of the arrows. Only a few unlucky men fell to the initial volley, their cries of pain lost amid the chaos.

Some of the arrows hit the carriages and the mounts, but they were already detached from the carriages hence it did not cause too much trouble.
