The dim lantern light flickered against the wooden walls of the small inn room. Outside, the muffled sounds of the bustling town had died down, leaving only the occasional creak of wooden beams and the distant call of night watchmen. "You seem awfully at ease, Miss," Alu said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We're not safe here."
Li An placed her teacup down with deliberate care. "Of course, we're not. The Bai family will attack us tonight."
