The sun was beginning to set as Alu, Chen Guang, and Lin Feng approached Linhe Village. The road was familiar, lined with trees and small farms that she remembered from childhood. But as they neared, a sense of unease crept into Alu's heart. It had been years since she last set foot in her family home, and she had no illusions about what awaited her.

"I'll go ahead," Alu said, her voice tight with emotion. "My mother... she's sick. I need to see her first."
