The next day, Whiskey-Jack was completing his new routine of training for Muskrat and himself, Muskrat being lazy had skipped days making the process longer than intended, but Whiskey-Jack deemed him fit enough now to begin learning how to use weapons.
Muskrat's thirteenth birthday had come and gone, and was looking more like a young man, the training had tone his body further, and a growth spurt matured him, making him as tall as Whiskey-Jack while maintaining his usual muscular frame.
Confident in his new found strength he regularly challenged his older brother to arm wrestling. Only to come out disappointed and more determined to catch up to him.
"Come on, please! Just one more time" begged Muskrat, he had already lost 2 matches to his older brother. "Okay fine, but don't expect the outcome to change" Whiskey-Jack said exhausted of the matches, as he placed down his elbow and readied himself.
"3…2…1…Go"
The two took off, holding each other in the middle, Muskrat had grow so much in strength he could now match his older brother, but wasn't able to quite best him yet.
Slowly Whiskey-Jack inched out his win, "Your closing in on strength, but you still don't have the stamina" he said with a huge grin, as he slammed his little brothers hand on the table.
"I'll catch up soon" Muskrat stood up, even though he lost, he was happy with the results that showed.
Smiling back, Whiskey-Jack called out to Tel, "I think it's time to patrol" Tel got up excitedly, his favorite part of the day was going out to explore and walk past the house.
"Okay, I'm getting hungry, let's see if we can find game along the way" the huge white wolf replied, his tail wagging at the possibility of fresh meat.
While walking the two talked as usual, about life before they met and laughing at each other's stories from their different adventures.
As they were close to home, about a five minute walk from the house, Tel stopped suddenly sniffing the air, "There's something coming…I've never smelt it before." As he bared his fangs to show it wasn't friendly.
The two decided to hide in some bushes, observing the area to see what their enemy would be this time.
"What is that?" asked Tel, as the creature came into view, his wagging tail had come to an abrupt stop, and was now tucking itself between his legs.
Whiskey-Jack didn't reply, but his visible shaking scared Tel even more, he was used to him being calm and confident against any creature he faced. He was now worried at what this new one was capable of.
