Chapter 117: Because... I'm the Boss?
"Alright, then shout all you want." As Su Mengyao prepared to cheer, Yun Zijin took out noise-canceling earplugs, letting Su Mengyao holler freely. Su Mengyao stared, a bit speechless. "Am I really that loud?" She glanced around at others yelling just as loudly.
"You're next to me when you shout, so it hits me harder," explained Zijin.
"Fine, I'll tone it down," Su Mengyao conceded. Despite wanting to keep the atmosphere lively, she didn't want to bother Zijin.
Meanwhile, Sheng Yang gazed over, feeling the mood lighten. "Sister Yun, how'd you do that?" He was referring to their effortless entry into Ginza just moments ago. One second, they'd been stopped. The next, the staff had welcomed them respectfully.
Zijin shrugged. "Well…maybe because I'm the boss?"
"Sister Yun, don't joke," Sheng Yang muttered, shaking his head. The idea was absurd. Ginza's owner was famously mysterious. Not one of them had ever met the person, yet Ginza possessed enough power that no one dared make trouble there.
Looking skeptical, Lu Yunfeng added, "But I thought I heard the gatekeeper say, 'Mr. Yun'? I can't have misheard. This is Ginza…"
Zijin spread her hands helplessly. "Truth can be stranger than fiction."
Before they could press further, a man came rushing out of the elevator: Wu Jiaxiang, whom Zijin recognized from the system's files.
"Boss Yun, I'm sorry I didn't realize you were coming. Please forgive me!" he said, hurrying over.
Sheng Yang and his friends exchanged uneasy looks, now fairly certain something serious was up.
"Manager Wu?" Zijin asked. She recalled Suibianhua's mention of him in the background materials.
"Yes, I'm Wu Jiaxiang," he confirmed, stopping before her. "Before Mr. Jing left, he instructed me to prepare this. Please, take it." He handed over a small red wooden box.
Zijin assumed "Mr. Jing" was Ginza's former proprietor. For reasons unknown, he'd sold Ginza despite its success. Whatever the reason, she was now the new boss. As if on cue, Suibianhua nudged her mentally: Host, accept it. I had him prepare it for you. Zijin's lips twitched at the system's timing.
She took the box, glancing at Wu Jiaxiang. "I've received it. Did Mr. Jing say anything else?"
"Only that from now on, I should focus on working under you," he replied respectfully.
"Alright. I don't have official business here today, just hanging out with friends. I heard the top floor's the best. Think you can arrange that?"
"Yes, Boss Yun. No one booked it today, so you and your friends can enjoy it," he said, relieved. He'd worried this new owner might arrive guns blazing, wanting to upend everything. But it seemed she just wanted to relax.
Su Mengyao and the others were dumbfounded, discovering that the staff who normally acted so aloof were now practically bowing before Zijin. Sheng Yang finally found his voice: "Sister Yun, are you really Ginza's boss?"
"I told you," Zijin said mildly, "you just didn't believe me."
"But earlier you said you don't have a membership card…" Li Yuexuan pointed out.
"I don't. This is my first time here," she clarified. She'd only learned of her ownership about an hour earlier, so there'd been no chance to get a card. Besides, as the boss, a membership card was hardly necessary.
Fu Yang eyed her skeptically. "Your first time here as boss?"
Zijin lifted a shoulder. "Many properties I own were gifts from an elder. Sometimes a place pops up without my knowing, like Ginza today. I only got word of it recently, so…" She trailed off, letting them read between the lines: this might happen again in the future.
Sheng Yang sighed enviously. "If only I had an elder like that…" He'd had to scrape and save just to open a bar. Meanwhile, properties dropped into Zijin's lap effortlessly.
"Boss Yun," Wu Jiaxiang said, gesturing around, "this is Ginza's top-floor suite, accessible only to supreme members. Luckily, no one booked it. You can enjoy it with your friends. If you need drinks or food, just let me know."
Zijin nodded. "They can order whatever they like. I'm not big on menus." Making choices wasn't her strong suit.
"I hear there's a famous osmanthus cake here," Su Mengyao interjected. "Could we try that?"
"Of course," Wu Jiaxiang said. "I'll have the kitchen prepare it. Limited batches are made each day, but for you, there's no limit."
Su Mengyao's eyes sparkled. She'd heard rumors of how special Ginza's osmanthus cake was, but never had the chance to taste it—until now. "Maybe one portion's not enough, though. There are a lot of us," she said, noticing the seven tall bodyguards. They'd definitely have hefty appetites.
Zijin chuckled. "Start with two. If you really like it, the kitchen can make more to take home."
Wu Jiaxiang promptly reassured her, "Yes, Miss Su. If you want more, we'll have the chef prepare extra." Thus, all was arranged. They could enjoy as much as they wanted, courtesy of the new boss's presence.
