Suddenly a lump fell between me and the thugs. It was black and writhing? A foul, rotten fish smell drifted through the air, making my stomach churn. As my eyes adjusted to the gruesome thing, I nearly threw up.
It was a headless cat, its stomach torn open, ribs protruding grotesquely as its intestines hung limply around it. The horrifying realization of what I was witnessing hit me hard. One by one, small and medium lumps rained down from the sky.
My horror intensified as I recognized them—different carcasses of animals, mostly cats and dogs. The sight was enough to make me gag, bile rising in my throat as I fought the urge to vomit.
The other thugs, once so aggressive, were now horrified by the macabre display. They shrieked and stumbled backward, desperate to escape the raining animal corpses.
