The Power of M

Twelve percent added to my pre-existing eight percent did not boost the powers that eight percent had given me, the Power of Manifestation and the Power of Morphreversion. Rather it gave me three new powers.

According to Blin, I shouldn’t expect boosts until the final twenty percent. For now I’d just be gaining access to the vast capabilities and skills of a Bastion of Genesis.

They suggested that it also helped with teaching novitiate Bastions precision and creativity. With creativity and precision they could make up for their lack of overwhelming power. Though I wondered how creativity and precision would allow me to manifest anything I want with how shoddy my Power of Manifestation was at the moment.

If I was to place it on a percentile scale, my Power of Manifestation would be two percent while my Power of Morphreversion would be twenty.

Anyway, I was excited for the three new powers, and they were not as low and shoddy as my Power of Manifestation. The three new powers I got access to were the Power of Maturation, the Power of Mergence, and the Power of Motion.

The first entailed growth, the second unity, and the third continuity.

With the Power of Maturation I could control progress, activate the growth of everything. I could make a desert a rainforest with enough practice, and make a mediocre an expert. I had first hand experience with that, with my familiarity with the power increasing I was using it to grow my competence and capabilities with my other powers.

It was slow going but there was so much potential. With this power I could turn a planetoid into a planet in time, command evolution, engender success…

For the first time I had a power that made me truly feel like a Bastion.

The Power of Mergence was just as wonderful. It was a power that allowed me to combine anything, from abstract ideas to physical items.

I could make relationships binding, oaths eternal, bonds perpetual. For science I could engender fusion, creating energy and death. I could make the old new.

And with the help of VIS I would soon be making the most of the Power of Mergence.

The final ability, the Power of Motion was a power that it took several thorough experimentation with VIS assistance to grasp the full scope of.

With the Power of Motion, which governs continuity, I could work forever without getting tired. My will would never wane, neither shall my passion wither. With it I could provide a new beginning for every end.

From what I got from Genesis, with time I would be able to use this ability to stop the heat death of the universe, erase death, and create eternity.

But the most I could use it for, for now, was superspeed. I was still getting the hang of it though. To use the concept of continuity to increase one’s speed was not easy. First I would have to start walking, then use the power to make sure I can’t get tired. Further use it to provide better continuity for my speed, thus increasing my speed. Then use it to engender instant continuity by having every step I take be a step across miles. VIS said this was space manipulating.

And it sure felt like it. It was like moving at nearly the speed of light and each step I take is like I take my feet off the ground in Alaska and place it down in New York. That was how instant continuity worked. With both better continuity and instant continuity creatively applied to different aspects of my movement when I’m running, I could run around Varganna in less than nanoseconds. According to VIS, I was doing it in picoseconds.

With the Power of Motion engendering continuity, I could also now fly. And, god, was it exhilarating. To fly I just only had to jump and I’d ‘continue’ levitating, and with better continuity I could increase my speed. I could fly as fast as I could run.

Like I said, I was finally starting to feel like a Bastion. And this was just the beginning though, especially with what I was about to do.

I was back in the Administration of Technology building. I was about to get my own Matrix. And no, it was not the chest band type, I had that already. This was the full global system type with satellites in orbit.

How did this come to be? Well, the Vargannas decided to reward me for saving their planet and told me to ask anything. I jokingly asked for a Matrix, expecting to be disappointed.

I was indeed disappointed, but not completely let down.

They couldn’t give me ‘the’ Matrix, neither could they build one for me as the costs were out of this world and frankly it was not an easy undertaking. But Blin pointed out that they could get me old, decommissioned, damaged Matrix hardware.

Blin was truly a friend. Because of them, here I stood now before ten different decommissioned satellites that once made up Vargannas old Matrix system, centuries ago.

I was about to restore them and make them portable then personalize them.

I didn’t know the purpose of all ten satellites, though I suppose one of them facilitated teleportation in a given space, optimally planet-wide.

“Shall we begin?” I asked, looking at my audience and assistance.

There was Blin, Co’s the Varganna scientist, and of course VIS was present with everyone. He was going to be the one assisting.

Co’s waved for me to carry on. I let out a deep breath and got ready. I had already done this, practicing with several junks VIS provided me with, so I know what item to merge with something old to restore it to mint condition.

Vargannas screen cleaner appeared in my hand, thanks to VIS. Next thing to appear was a repair tool that uses the same energy the Matrix uses to rebuild and restore cities. The tool, as I’d learned, was often used by repairmen, engineers, and even architects.

The last thing to appear was the Vargannas’ equivalent of a vacuum cleaner. Now it was time.
