Jayden's expression remained impassive as Carl continued to smile. His eyes never wavered, his face a mask of indifference.
"I heard you just came back from rehab, must be nice huh?" Carl said
"Yes. It is," Jayden responded in a low tone
"I see, they said you're different now, but... I didn't believe it, so I decided to come see for my self."
Jayden didn't comment, his silence was deafening.
Carl's smile began to falter, his eyes flashing with anger. "You think you're above me, don't you? You think you can just ignore me? Well two can play that game," he thought
"But i also heard that you couldn't evolve, that's a shame, isn't it?" he continued
Again, Jayden didn't reply. His gaze never shifted, his expression unchanging.
Carl was annoyed at Jayden's behavior, he demanded to be acknowledged
"Well, a lot of things have changed around here as well... Including me." he said, pride visible in his voice
"I see," Jayden replied and shut the locker door, he stared at Carl one last time before leaving
Carl's anger boiled over, he couldn't take it anymore. With a sudden burst of rage, he punched Jayden's new locker. The metal crumpled, and a burst of flames erupted from his fist. The sound of crackling fire filled the air.
Carl's eyes blazed with fury, his face alight with an inner flame. "You're going to pay attention to me, Starrk."
The air was charged with tension at Carl's sudden violence. Students around the area gathered to see what was going on, but they made sure to keep a distance.
Jayden turned back and stared at Carl, very coldly it sent shivers down his spine.
But he didn't fear Jayden. Afterall he didn't have any abilities, what could he possibly do.
"Five years ago, you almost killed me, and those buffoons just let you get away with it. Well forced therapy isn't enough revenge for me!" he voiced out, his hands still blazing fiercely
Jayden frowned "I believe i served my punishment, that's enough," he said sharply
But Carl was even more furious, this weakling dared to talk back at him. He was the most handsome, strongest and influential male in the entire school.
"Oh i don't think so. You see i don't believe you have changed at all, that silent facade you're playing doesn't work on me." he said
"I wanted to show everyone just how much of a beast you are, but screw that. I want you to get on your knees and apologize for what you did. I'm the king of the campus and you will bow to me!"
Jayden was now angry, he clenched his face and his expression shifted a little. This brat had insulted his mother straight to his face, the one person he was living for. There was no way he would apologize
"Kneel! You are just an ordinary human, this won't end up like the last time. I promise you," Carl stated as he began moving closer to Henry, both hands now covered in flames
Jayden hated this, he hated when others get bullied because they are weaker, he hated the entire system of the world. He clenched his fist even harder, his nails piercing into his palms. His eyes were now replaced with bloodlust
Carl felt it but kept moving anyways, till he was right in front of Jayden. They stared in each other's eye, with Carl trying to look intimidating. But Jayden didn't falter, he stood his ground, looking like he could rip Carl apart at any second, not caring much for his abilities.
Just as the fight was about to erupt, a melodious voice cut through the chaos.
"Enough!"
Carl turned to look at the person that dared interrupt his moment, he was even more angry at that person. Everyone also shifted their gaze to the perpetuator
It was none other than Tasha.
-"Crap! It's the president,"
-"Goddess Tasha has arrived, let's get out of here!"
Her presence this time wasn't for admiration, it was that of complete fear. She had a frown on her face, her arms crossed, staring daggers into Carl
Tasha wasn't just powerful and beautiful, she was also the student council president, and that held a lot of authority than any other student in the school.
She stepped forward. Her presence commanding attention.
Carl's flames died down, and he smoothed his expression, donning a charming smile. "Tasha darling. I didn't mean to cause a scene." he said with a gentle voice. His behavior suddenly took a turn, the girl in front of him was too important. Apart from her being stronger than him, she was his crush.
Tasha's gaze lingered on Carl before shifting to Jayden. "Hey, did he hurt you? Are you okay?"
Jayden nodded, he seemed to have calmed down
Tasha smiled and turned to Carl with a frown "I should have you punished for trying to pick an inappropriate fight, especially against someone who isn't an evolved human."
Carl bowed, his smile still plastered on his face. "I was only welcoming Jayden. i thought I'd greet an old... friend with a little dazzle. You know how i roll," he winked
But Tasha ignored him "I don't care about anything you do, if you try something like this again, you will answer to miss Kate. And I'm sure you don't want that?" she replied in a stern voice
"Ofcourse i won't do it again. Since you demand it," Carl replied, but Tasha didn't spare him the glance. She turned back to Jayden
"Sorry about all this, he will definitely pay for damages. I hope your first day isn't ruined?" She asked softly, concern visible in her eyes
"It's fine," Jayden replied and Tasha smiled once again
Carl was witnessing everything and he was not happy about it
"She's never like this with me, she doesn't even look at me at times, but this... brat." he was fuming inwardly but maintained a smile and the outside. His reputation was also important, he couldn't try anything right there
Tasha wasn't even paying attention to him anymore, she was just staring at Jayden with care. He clenched his fist, and left the area with total rage
"I swear, this isn't over Starrk!" he muttered to himself
As the tension dissipated, Tasha decided to walk Jayden back to his class
"I saw the card, thanks." Jayden said as they approached the entrance of the class
"Oh it... It was nothing." Tasha replied with a smile
Jayden nodded "I didn't know you were the student president," he stated in a calm voice
"Yeah... I am. Jessica forced me to run at the beginning of the year. And I won unrivaled," she replied with a cute smile, no one would believe she was the same person who was so intimidating just few minutes ago
"It suits you," Jayden said, before entering the class
Tasha blushed for no reason "Did... did he just compliment me? Wait till Jessica hears about this." She thought, before heading back to her class
Few hours later, classes ended for the day and Jacob came to pick them up before they all returned home.
"Hello kids, how was school today? Jayden how was your first day? Hope no one gave you any trouble?" Harleen greeted them ad they entered the house
"Hey mum, school was great," The girls replied
"It was cool i guess," Jayden said, indifferently
Harleen smiled and offered them lunch, to which they all ate and went about their own thing once again
Jayden returned to his room after lunch, he sat behind the desktop and began another research session.
But this time was researching and learning about history.
Ever since he was a child, Jayden had loved learning about mythology. It was his favorite hobby after martial arts, and he had knowledge on almost every mythology ever written in the world.
He would indulge himself and learn about the gods and other beings, including the rulers of their universe and what the stories said about them.
He had always loved the twin gods; Artemis and Apollo. The fluidity of their relationship and their accomplishments, moreover they were two of the only three gods present in their universe. Atleast that's what the story says.
But he loved Artemis more, mainly because of her affiliation with the moon. Which was one the only things he loved about the world, his mother had taught him to seek comfort with the moon and learn to adore it, and strangely he truly always felt connected with it.
He would stare at the moon, and sometimes even talk to it. Anytime he got angry, thinking about it made him calm, it was even incorporated into a mantra for him.
The day ended quickly with nothing much happening and the next day arrived quickly and Jacob took them to school as usual.
They only had one class before everyone headed out to the school's large, open field for different activities. It was a Friday, which was also their sports day.
The sun-drenched field was alive with the vibrant sounds of laughter and competition. Students were scattered across the lush green grass, some engaged in a heated game of football, while others sprinted around the track. The air was filled with the sweet scent of freshly cut grass and the distant chirping of birds.
Amidst the chaos, Jayden sat alone on the stairs beside the entrance, his eyes fixed on the commotion before him. He wasn't interested in any event, content to observe from a distance.
He was putting on his sports attire as well but just didn't want to participate, he wouldn't even have come outside if it wasn't for Tasha who made him promise to atleast go out and mix with the other students.
So here he was, sitting alone and lost in thought. Jessica was also on the field engaging in game of badminton, she would steal glances at Jayden once in a while hoping he would look in her direction so she could dismiss him.
But Jayden didn't even notice her, his eyes were fixed on the sky.
Suddenly, the clear sky transformed into a swirling vortex of dark clouds. Lightning illuminated the ominous clouds, casting an eerie glow over the field. Thunder boomed, shaking the earth beneath their feet.
Jayden noticed this and frowned "How did the sky suddenly change," he thought, but there was no time to think much as that was only the beginning.
Panic set in as lightning struck the ground mere yards away, sending students scrambling for safety. Jayden immediately stood up, his heart racing, and prepared to dash inside.
Students were running helter-skelter, trying to get away from the field. They collided on each other and struggled to enter the building. Jayden who was closest to the door was about entering already,
That's when he heard it... a faint cry for help.
A girl, caught in the chaos, had fallen and twisted her ankle. She lay there, helpless, as her classmates rushed past her, nobody stopped to help her.
Jayden hesitated for a moment, weighing his options. He didn't care about this girl, and it wasn't his problem, she should suffer for being to weak and fragile. He hated bullying but it didn't mean he condoned weakness as well.
But something about her desperate gaze struck a chord within him. He remembered something from his past, and it made him furious but compassionate.
Without thinking, he sprinted toward her, dodging fleeing students and debris. He scooped her up effortlessly, cradling her in his arms.
"Hold on!" he shouted above the thunder, the girl just stared at him with shock and admiration. She didn't think anyone would come to her aid. He was her knight in a... well there isn't much of an armor is there.
Together, they dashed toward the entrance, the girl's terrified eyes locked on the chaos behind them.
They burst through the doors just as another lightning bolt struck, shattering the window behind them. The sound of shattering glass and the acrid smell of ozone filled the air.
Breathless, Jayden set the girl down, her face etched with gratitude.
He was now able to get a good view of the damsel in distress. She was a very beautiful blonde, with large breasts. She had purple eyes that made her more alluring, and a body that was simply to sexy to resist.
Jayden couldn't help but admire her, he felt something jolt in him. Afterall he was only a teenager as well, not a bloody stick.
"Thank you so much, i owe you my life." the girl said with appreciation, her voice was even more sexy
"It's fine. Next ti..."
Jayden words were cut short as his body jerked, his eyes widening in shock. A lightning bolt, having pierced through the window, had struck him.
The girl's scream echoed through the hallway.
Jayden vision blurred. "What! How? Haha, this lightening had to wait till I was inside first. How hilarious, just like my life." he thought as he body slumped to the ground
"I'm sorry mother, i couldn't avenge you. I couldn't... find her. I failed." he muttered to himself, his life flashing before his eyes
But that wasn't the only thing flashing in his eyes
A silver interfaced holographic screen suddenly appeared in his line of sight, some weird words written on it
[Requirement has been met]
[System integrating...]
"Huh? What is this? Is this something you see when you're about to die?" he asked, but more words appeared
[Alert! Non-human genes found in host; modifying system to meet Host's genetic code]
[Curse has been forcefully activated]
[Congratulations you have acquired the Beastlord system]
"What curse? Beastlord? Wait! Where's my necklace? What the hell is happe..." he said inwardly, before slowly losing consciousness, and then
Everything went black.
