Her eyes widened in surprise as she processed the words that had just been spoken to her. Her gaze focused on Cain, who continued to look at her, waiting for a response—one that she seemed unable to give.
Her first reaction was to instantly lie and shake her head, denying what he was trying to imply, only to realize that such a response would in no way benefit her.
The chain around her ankle was a reminder that even the other servants in the mansion had more freedom than she did. Lowering her gaze to the sheets, her cheeks bloomed red as she began to speak.
"Ple-please?" she asked, raising her head back up to show her earnestness, hoping it would soften Cain's otherwise hardened heart, only to be taken aback when she got the opposite reaction of what she had been hoping to see.
