Violet could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she got down from the helicopter and walked beside Cain, entering the car that was waiting to pick them up.
The sun was high in the sky, but Violet didn't notice any heat from it as she concentrated on staring at the ground. She wore a white short gown that accentuated the color of her pale skin, but that was the least of her concerns as she entered the car, with Cain moving to sit beside her.
"You look scared. That's unlike you," Cain pointed out. But Violet, her face fixed on the car window, simply raised her hand to touch the dog-like collar still fastened around her neck as she responded.
"Wouldn't you be scared if you were me?" Violet asked, turning her full gaze to him, annoyed. The calm expression on his face, devoid of any concern, only grated on her nerves as she continued speaking, ignoring the driver as if he were nonexistent.
