It was the next day, one hour ago, they saw off Daniel and Caleb, and now alone again, Liam let himself faint in David's arm. Now the only one awake, David sighed too, what a day, David promised himself to kill any other human he saw. A baby faced boy and his crawler was one thing, helping others because he could was another.

"Better go sleeping", David carried his lover inside, after all they had another fortified cabin to build once awake.

A while later, David woke early, the soft gray light of dawn filtering through the window, casting a gentle glow over the room. The fire had burned down to embers, and the cabin was quiet, save for the steady sound of Liam's breathing beside him.

Liam, still deep in sleep, was curled up against David, his head resting on David's chest, tangled in the warmth of the blanket.

The quiet was comfortable, familiar.

David lay still for a moment, just listening to the sounds of the morning, the silence of the cabin wrapping around him like a protective shield. He didn't mind the stillness. It was rare to feel this peaceful. The chaos of the world beyond their walls felt so distant, so irrelevant, and for once, David could simply breathe without the weight of any looming task or danger.

His fingers absentmindedly stroked Liam's hair, a slow, repetitive motion, almost soothing in its simplicity. Liam had always been like this—calm, even in his sleep, despite the exhaustion that had claimed him the night before. David couldn't help but admire him in moments like these—vulnerable, yet still a part of the quiet strength they shared.

After a while, he gently shifted beneath the blankets, careful not to disturb Liam too much. The familiar feeling of Liam's weight on him was something he never took for granted, but today, there was something almost tender in the way he moved. He stretched, his muscles pulling with a satisfying tension, and then swung his legs over the edge of the bed. The cool floor beneath his feet was a shock, but it was refreshing.

He grabbed his shirt off the chair and slid it on, moving with the kind of efficiency that came naturally to him. As he stood there, looking at Liam still soundly asleep, David felt a small, almost imperceptible tug in his chest—he loved him so deeply.

The morning passed lazily, David tending to the cabin while Liam remained curled up on the couch. He had no particular plan, but there was a kind of comfort in the routine.

After a while, the fire was crackling again, the air warm and inviting, and David settled back down beside Liam.

He let the day unfold at its own pace, not rushing, not needing to. There was a perfect stillness in the cabin now, a sense that, for the time being, they were untouchable.

David ran his fingers through Liam's hair again as he sat beside him, waiting for him to wake.

Eventually, Liam stirred, his eyes fluttering open slowly, adjusting to the soft light. He blinked a few times, a faint smile curling at the corners of his lips as he looked up at David.

"Morning," Liam murmured, his voice rough from sleep but warm with affection.

David gave him a small smile back.

"Morning," he replied, the simple word carrying more weight than it ever would outside these walls.

Liam stretched lazily, his body unwinding from the sleep, and then rolled onto his side, his eyes still half-closed.

"Did you take care of the fire?" he asked, his voice still thick with sleep.

"Of course," David replied, reaching out to gently brush his fingers over Liam's cheek.

"And I made sure the cabin is warm and cozy for you. I figured you could use a little more rest."

Liam's smile widened, and he nestled closer to David, seeking out the warmth radiating from his partner. "You always know how to make everything better," he said, his eyes finally fully opening as he gazed at David with a mix of gratitude and adoration.

David chuckled softly, a hint of embarrassment creeping into his cheeks. "I just like taking care of you."

With a playful nudge, Liam shifted closer, their bodies fitting together like pieces of a puzzle. "Well, you're doing a great job." He paused, his expression turning slightly more serious. "What's the plan for today?"

David took a moment, considering their options. "We could start working on that fortified cabin."

Liam nodded, his brow furrowing slightly. "I know it's important, but… it feels so nice just being here, like this."

"I know," David said, brushing his fingers through Liam's hair again, savoring this tranquil moment. "But we don't want them here in our cabin, when they'll come back."

Liam giggled at that. "Yeah, we don't."

"Now get up, sleepy head," David teased lightly, "if we finish that rapidely, we would be able to do whatever you want to."

Liam chuckled softly, then turned more serious as he looked into David's eyes. "Just promise me we'll take breaks. I don't want to stress other that."

"I'll make sure we don't," David agreed, his heart swelling for the man. "After all, I can't spoil you if we are both stressed."

Liam leaned in, pressing a soft kiss against David's lips. "I won't be able to spoil you too," he smiled.

After a few moments of comfortable silence, Liam stretched again and then sat up, the blanket slipping from his shoulders. "Okay, let's go."

David grinned, "Bathroom first love."

As Liam nodded and shuffled off to the bathroom, David stood up and moved to the small kitchen area. The cabin felt alive with possibility, and while the world outside held its dangers, inside these walls, they had built their own sanctuary—a place where hope and love could flourish amidst the uncertainty.

David busied himself, chopping some vegetables for a simple breakfast, the sound of Liam humming to himself in the bathroom providing a pleasant backdrop.

When Liam finally emerged, looking more awake and ready for the day, David set a plate down in front of him at the small table.

"Breakfast is served."

"What would I do without you?" Liam asked, his eyes sparkling with warmth as he dug in.

"Probably starve," David joked, taking a seat across from him.

The blond pouted.
