Chapter 42: The Dead Marshes

The journey through the Dead Marshes continued, with the ground slippery and unstable, threatening to swallow anyone who faltered. The air grew thick with the stench of decay, almost suffocating, and the cold, damp wind carried an eerie chill. Every step felt heavier, and the tension in the group was palpable, as danger seemed to press in from all sides.

Suddenly, Gimli halted, raising his axe in a silent signal for everyone to stop. He whispered, "There's something ahead."

The group immediately fell silent, straining to hear any sounds. In the distance, a faint noise echoed through the marsh, like a massive creature moving slowly through the swamp.

"Should we go around it?" Sam asked quietly, concern in his voice.

"We can't," Halbarad responded grimly. "There's no safe place in these marshes. We have no choice but to move forward. Prepare for anything."
