Chapter 80

Kai met the chief's gaze steadily, a thin line of tension threading through the air.

"Understood," he said, giving a firm nod.

Without wasting anymore time he turned toward the door, ready to leave, but then stopped abruptly.

"Chief?" Kai said, turning back, his tone even but layered with purpose.

Hearing what Kai just said.

The chief raised an eyebrow, waiting.

"I have evidence," Kai began, his voice measured but charged, "on Sam being bullied. Injuries, a confession. It's all on record. This isn't just kids being kids. It's systematic abuse, and it's breaking him."

Upon hearing what Kai just said.

The chief's pen stopped tapping as he sat up straighter, his brows knitting together in frustration. "Are you serious, Kai? You're still stuck on that kid and the bullying? I gave you a day off to let it go, to clear your head, and you're back here with this?"
