Purification or fusion?
At this moment, only one question dominated Novak's mind. Beyond that, all that remained was shock.
He couldn't help but feel utterly astonished by this mysterious '?? Face,' an item whose name he didn't even know. Novak was well aware of the value of the two demonic blood essences he had just sacrificed—one was A-grade, a task reward from Kong, while the other was B-grade, purified by the black light virus after he had defeated the demon warrior.
Yet, the resulting essence was now A+ grade!
A+ was a special tier—stronger than A-grade but still below S-grade. However, it was undeniably more potent than the original two bloodlines. The shock came from the fact that, after consuming the two, this face had somehow merged them into a single A+ grade essence.
Although it wasn't S-grade, the result was shocking enough.
There were games that allowed fusion or enhancement—where combining identical items could upgrade them. However, in the trial field of gods and demons, such a function didn't exist. The Cosmic Will offered no such service, as it defied logic. How could lower-tier items ever compare to higher-tier ones? The difference between levels was enormous, with higher grades being several times—if not dozens of times—more valuable.
Especially when it came to the gap between A-level and S-level. The difference was almost unfathomable.
Yet now, two demonic bloodlines had merged into an A+ rank essence. What could this mean?
Novak didn't know if this fusion ability could surpass S-grade and reach the legendary SSS-grade, but if it could, the implications would be nothing short of heaven-defying!
No wonder that goblin god had gone to such lengths, tricking and coaxing Novak upon his arrival at the trial ground, even offering the 'Dual Job Scroll' to lure him into that incinerator. That task alone should have raised Novak's suspicions. And later, after clearing the incinerator, the goblin god had offered an SSS-grade job transfer scroll as part of a mission, the difficulty of which was so overwhelming it had almost driven Novak to despair. The gap between the first and second stages of the task was like night and day.
Now, looking at the power of this mysterious face, Novak's mind raced. Could this face actually be an SSS-grade treasure?
Only such an extraordinary artifact could possess such a heaven-defying ability!
Novak licked his dry lips. If that were the case, could he combine the phagocytic powers of the black light virus with the abilities of this unknown face to create an SSS-grade bloodline?
The possibility filled him with excitement, but he quickly regained focus. This wasn't the time for wild speculation. After all, obtaining an SSS-grade bloodline was no simple matter. For now, his priority was to discover if this strange '?? Face' held any other hidden powers.
Leaving aside Meimei, who still slept soundly nearby, Novak directed his full attention back to the face, ready to experiment further.
He began by taking out two identical pieces of equipment, both produced by zombies. Holding them before the face, he waited for a reaction, but to his disappointment, all he received was an uninterested roll of its eyes.
Not interested? Not in equipment?
Novak sighed in mild frustration. If the face could fuse equipment, it would truly be a game-changer. But after some thought, he realized that such an ability would be far too unbalanced, even by this world's strange standards.
Undeterred, he retrieved two identical return scrolls instead. This time, the face showed mild interest, sniffing the air as if considering them. However, it soon turned its attention away.
Novak shook his head. Even if the face could only enhance bloodlines, it was still a remarkable ability. The rest could be tested another day.
As the face slowly began to close again, Novak glanced at it thoughtfully.
"What exactly is your name?" he mused aloud.
The face offered no response to his question. Yet, as Novak's gaze lingered on it, the mouth suddenly opened again, as though it hadn't eaten its fill.
It wanted more.
Novak let out a long breath. This strange artifact must have been born after the trial ground of gods and demons had begun. However, since it had no name—or at least none that Novak knew of—it seemed fitting for him to give it one.
After a moment of thought, Novak rubbed his chin and declared, "You seem to have quite the appetite. Let's call you the Gluttonous Face."
Gluttony—the mythical beast of ancient legend—was said to devour everything in the world. Though this face was a picky eater, its ability to consume and spit out enhanced items was incredible.
To Novak's surprise, the face reacted to the name. It actually changed!
[Gluttonous Face]
[Level: Unknown]
[A strange face capable of devouring special items and enhancing their fusion.]
Though the description was simple, Novak knew that often, the simpler something seemed, the more profound its power. It reminded him of his time hourglass, which bore no description beyond a series of question marks, yet possessed abilities that defied reality itself.
With a deep breath, Novak closed his spatial backpack inside the system warehouse. He now realized that the clear growth plan he had previously set for himself might need some adjustments.
How to obtain a vast number of high-grade bloodlines… that would be key to his doomsday plan!
