Kaori's POV.
Pairs.
Of course.
Of course the teacher would pull this today.
I exhale slowly through my nose, my fingers tightening around my pencil. The scratching of lead against paper, the faint chatter of classmates, the occasional creak of a chair—all of it fades into the background. None of it matters.
What matters is that Yuto is next to me. Chi is on his other side. And right now? I already know exactly what's going through his head.
I don't even need to look at him.
I just know he's trying to find a way to partner up with her.
Tch.
Not happening.
The second the teacher finishes talking, I turn to Yuto before he can even think about moving.
"We're partners."
It's not a question. Not a suggestion.
It's law.
Yuto blinks, caught off guard. "Huh?"
I flash him a smile—a completely normal, not-at-all-threatening smile. Totally innocent. No underlying meaning whatsoever.
