Chapter 19.2

The Next Day.

My legs still ache.

The soreness is worse today — a deep, dragging burn curling beneath my skin, radiating up through my calves and thighs with each step. My arms feel heavier beneath the weight of my bag slung over one shoulder, the lingering strain from yesterday's workout twisting sharp beneath the edge of my muscles.

I slide into my seat, setting my bag down on the floor beside the desk. The classroom hums faintly with the low chatter of students settling in — the scrape of chairs, the shuffle of books, the thin crackle of fluorescent lights flickering overhead.

My gaze shifts toward the window. Thin streaks of pale light filter faintly through the glass, soft lines of gold cutting across the edge of the desk. The sky beyond is still overcast, pale gray clouds stretching toward the horizon.
