Chapter 29: Hubris and Intrigue

"Excellent!"

"Excellent? Do you still dare say 'excellent'? Why resort to cheating in your domain?" Su Mei's anger was palpable.

My gaze immediately shifted towards the mirror.

The composure of Donald left me somewhat suspicious; had he relocated the watch? Without concrete evidence, Su Mei was powerless against him.

Yet there it sat, the watch still on his wrist.

Why then did Donald remain so composed? Could it be that I had erred in my judgment?

"As one ascends, water flows downhill. Why else? For money!" Donald's blatant admission caught me off guard.

More boldly still, he spoke while insolently locking eyes with Su Mei. The audacity of his demeanour almost shifted the blame away from himself to Su Mei.

Suppressing her fury, Su Mei demanded, "Hand over your cheating watch."

Without hesitation, Donald removed the watch and placed it on Su Mei's desk.

"This is not a watch, it's a detector. If you like it, it's yours..."
