As she spoke, Aeliana, her eyes glistening with tears, once again pressed her finger to her throat. A faint smile crossed her face as she looked at me.
I understood. That smile was a bittersweet farewell.
"Wait!" I said in a firm voice.
Even if I were as cold-hearted as stone, I could not remain indifferent to this scene.
"I will not gamble with you. However, I can help you, but I have one condition…"
The glint of despair in Aeliana's eyes flickered with a glimmer of hope once more.
"Please, Lupan, tell me!"
Fixing my gaze on Aeliana, I spoke coldly, "From now on, your life belongs to me. If I do not allow you to die, then you cannot die!"
Tears streamed from Aeliana's eyes again. She was already a wreck, reduced to sobbing. Yet she steadfastly nodded and sniffled, "Rest assured, Lupan. Though I come from humble beginnings, I understand the value of a promise. From today onward, your affairs are my affairs. My life is yours; take it whenever you wish!"
