Chapter 149: Marine Headquarters Promotion

Chapter 149: Marine Headquarters Promotion

As the world grappled with chaos, the Navy Headquarters announced a groundbreaking development—promotions that sent shockwaves through every corner of the seas.

Admiral Kong, the former admiral, was promoted to Navy Marshal.

Buddha Sengoku, previously a vice admiral, was elevated to admiral.

Zephyr, known as "Black Arm," was also promoted to admiral.

Vice Admiral Tsuru was appointed Chief of Staff of the Naval Headquarters.

These announcements reverberated across the world, causing widespread astonishment.

The position of admiral had been vacant for some time. Though traditionally there were three admirals, the role had been shelved due to Vice Admiral Garp's refusal to accept a promotion. Now, with the sudden addition of two admirals, the Navy's strength surged.

This newfound power was soon unleashed. Admirals Sengoku and Zephyr led fleets across the four seas and the first half of the Grand Line, relentlessly pursuing pirates. Many pirates were captured, while others went into hiding. However, a few notable groups, including those of Don Chinjao and World Destroyer Bundy Wald, managed to break through the encirclement and escape to the New World.

"Damn it! Both Chinjao and Wald slipped through our grasp!" Marshal Kong growled, his frustration evident.

But after a moment of silence, he sighed. "Send a message to Garp. Tell him to stop chasing Roger for now and focus on capturing Chinjao and Wald. They must be sent to Impel Down."

"Yes, Marshal!" The messenger saluted and left to contact Vice Admiral Garp.

On Garp's Ship

"Moshi Moshi! Vice Admiral Garp, this is Marine Headquarters," the messenger's voice crackled through the Den Den Mushi.

"Hoo... Hoo..." came a sleepy response from the other end.

"Vice Admiral Garp!" the adjutant yelled, jolting Garp awake.

"Huh? What's going on? Did you find Roger?" Garp asked groggily, rubbing his eyes.

"Vice Admiral, it's a call from headquarters!" the adjutant said, pointing to the Den Den Mushi.

"Oh, right!" Garp mumbled, finally noticing the device in his hand. "Moshi Moshi! What's the matter?"

"Vice Admiral, Marshal Kong has ordered you to divert your efforts toward capturing Don Chinjao and World Destroyer Bundy Wald. Both have fled to the New World after escaping from Admiral Sengoku."

"Got it! If I run into them, I'll take care of it. But for now, I'm going after Roger! I'll catch him, I swear!" Garp exclaimed before abruptly hanging up.

He tossed the Den Den Mushi back to his adjutant, yawned, and reclined on a nearby bench.

"Wake me up when we find Roger. I need to be well-rested for my donut-eating record attempt. Hahahaha!" Within seconds, Garp was snoring again, much to the adjutant's exasperation.

Kami Island

Meanwhile, Charlotte had been back on Kami Island for two weeks, busily attending to various matters.

Many people, particularly freed slaves, expressed a desire to return home. Charlotte arranged for their safe transport, utilizing the extensive network of the Shipping King, a powerful figure in the New World. Eager to strengthen his ties with Charlotte, the Shipping King willingly provided his services free of charge.

After helping the freed slaves, Charlotte took stock of the remaining members of his crew—nearly six hundred individuals, most of whom were homeless and had chosen to join the Rockefeller Pirates. Among them, almost half were women, a fact that Charlotte viewed as an asset rather than a limitation.

To ensure the crew's survival and growth, Charlotte assigned training responsibilities to Carter and other senior members. He emphasized the importance of strength, knowing that his men would face countless challenges.

Once everything was settled, Charlotte returned home, where Elena, now heavily pregnant, greeted him with a loving smile.

"Is everything arranged?" Elena asked, her eyes brimming with affection.

"Yes, everything is taken care of. I don't have to worry anymore," Charlotte replied, holding her close.

Martha and the other women joined them, each carrying one of Charlotte's children.

"Where's Esdeath?" Charlotte asked, noticing his spirited daughter's absence.

"She's probably off playing with her new friends on the island," Jenny replied.

"She made friends already?" Charlotte asked with a hint of surprise.

"She's just like you," Jenny said with a laugh. "She beat up all the other kids first and made them call her 'Big Sister.' Whether they were ten or five years old, she didn't care. Now, she's practically the queen of the island's children."

Charlotte chuckled proudly. "At only four years old, she's beating up ten-year-olds. That's my daughter!"

"You're spoiling her too much! Sooner or later, she'll get into trouble," Jenny scolded, rolling her eyes.

"By the way, how is she doing with her Devil Fruit powers? Can she control them?" Charlotte asked, suddenly concerned. Esdeath's Cold-Cold Fruit granted her immense power, but its strength could be dangerous, especially to other children.

"Don't worry," Martha interjected. "We've been teaching her how to control her powers. She knows not to use them on others. We told her that if she does, she won't be allowed to play outside anymore. Thankfully, she's a sensible child and hasn't used her powers in front of anyone."

Charlotte breathed a sigh of relief. "Good. I don't want any accidents."

He looked out toward the horizon, feeling a rare sense of peace amidst the chaos of the world. But deep down, he knew that this tranquility wouldn't last forever.
