Chapter 337: A Weapon That Ate a Devil Fruit

Chapter 337: A Weapon That Ate a Devil Fruit

Through the transparent glass dome—

Caesar Clown released a faint puff of gas.

As soon as the figure inside the cell inhaled it, his body began to twitch violently. Slowly, he opened his eyes and took in the surroundings.

But the moment he became conscious, his eyes turned bloodshot. Veins bulged and fangs filled his mouth.

"Graaah—!"

"Raaah—!"

A beast-like roar burst forth as the man began to thrash and struggle against the chains that bound him.

Clang! Clang!

The metal clanked under the strain of his manic thrashing.

"Let me see what this thing can do," Charlotte said suddenly.

"Yes, sir!"

Caesar immediately released the Sea-Prism Stone bindings that had been suppressing the prisoner's abilities.

As soon as the restraint was lifted, the man went fully berserk.

"Raaaah!!"

His human form vanished. In his place stood a grotesque beast—with eight tentacles sprouting from his back, a single horn on his forehead, and features resembling both a leopard and a jackal. He was a fusion of several animals, his body a horrific amalgamation.

Charlotte immediately closed his eyes, unable to bear the sight.

He felt like he'd just seen something that shouldn't exist—it was too grotesque.

Turning away, he looked at Caesar. "What the hell is that?"

Caesar's expression twitched. "Uh… there was a little mishap with the lineage factor fusion. A minor error! But I've already solved the issue—this won't happen with the next one!"

Charlotte didn't press further. Forcing himself to look back at the creature, he asked calmly, "Has it lost all sense of reason?"

"Get a death row prisoner in there. I want to see its combat performance."

Without hesitation, Caesar ordered his team.

Naturally, the chosen test subject was the same prisoner who had been shouting insults at Charlotte earlier.

"W-Wait! What are you doing?! Don't! I won't curse again! I'm sorry!!"

But Caesar didn't even look at him.

He tossed the man and a broadsword into the chamber.

In the control room, Caesar activated the speaker and said, "Get up. Pick up the sword. In a moment, a test subject will be released. If you kill it, you're free."

The man looked around in terror, then slowly grabbed the sword from the floor.

Satisfied, Caesar nodded and hit a button.

A door opened.

The grotesque beast's restraints dropped with a heavy thud.

A thick tentacle, as wide as a man's thigh, slithered out of the doorway.

The prisoner's eyes went wide. "What… What the hell is that?!"

He stumbled backward, trembling.

His fear attracted the monster's attention. With a terrifying roar, the beast lunged.

"HELP ME!!!"

The prisoner flailed wildly, swinging the sword in a blind panic.

But it was pointless.

In full view of Charlotte, the creature ripped the man apart, then began devouring him like an animal.

Charlotte grimaced. The sight turned his stomach.

Caesar, however, was delighted, watching the monitor with gleaming eyes.

"Worthless. It's just a mindless beast. What use is that to me?"

Charlotte shook his head.

Caesar's giddy expression vanished like a bucket of cold water had been poured over him.

"I swear, this isn't all I've accomplished… I discovered something else during testing!"

Trying to salvage the situation, Caesar rushed out of the lab and returned with a weapon secured in a Sea-Prism Stone case.

It was… just a sword?

Charlotte raised an eyebrow as Caesar excitedly presented it.

"Captain, I discovered that not only living creatures can eat Devil Fruits—even inanimate objects can, and they'll gain the same abilities!"

Charlotte's eyes lit up. "A weapon… that ate a Devil Fruit?"

"Exactly!"

With a grin, Caesar activated the sword.

The blade twisted and transformed into a white bear—it was from the White Bear Fruit that Charlotte had recently acquired at an auction.

Charlotte took the transformed weapon, his mood instantly lifted.

"How powerful is it?" he asked, inspecting the bear-blade.

"It's no weaker than a top-grade sword—comparable to one of the Twenty-One Great Grade Swords," Caesar answered confidently. "In fact, with its unique abilities, it may even surpass them."

"And what's the success rate?"

"For Zoan-types? One hundred percent. As for Paramecia… still unclear. But I'm confident we can make it work!"

Charlotte's thoughts raced. He had several Devil Fruits in storage—some of which were perfect candidates for weaponization.

"Good. Very good."

He looked Caesar in the eye. "I'm assigning you a new mission—find a way to let weapons consume Paramecia-type Fruits. Can you do it?"

"So long as I have enough samples," Caesar grinned, "I'll make it happen!"
