Chapter 745: He Finally Finds His Target

Sometimes, what one expects to happen does not always align with reality. After spending two days resting at the mansion on the outskirts, Cain unexpectedly had to leave.

It all began on the second night.

In the middle of his sleep, a small computer Cain carried in his hands suddenly lit up, emitting a notification.

Simultaneously, the mechanical voice of the system resonated in his mind:

"Beep. Target located. Range locked. Would you like to reduce the search range?"

Abruptly awakened by the system, Cain immediately sat up in bed. Ever since he had obtained this device, he had carried it with him at all times, even while sleeping—except when entering the water. That showed how important it was to him.

When he programmed the system, he set alarms so that whenever a discovery was made, it would notify him regardless of the time or circumstances, even while he slept. That was why being woken up in the middle of the night did not bother him. On the contrary, his heart filled with excitement.

He had finally found it.

"System, lock the range and reduce the search. Inform me of any changes immediately." While issuing mental commands to the system, he began dressing hastily.

The Pokémon resting around his bed opened their eyes, alerted by their trainer's unusual movements. Thinking something serious had happened, they adopted defensive stances, a reflection of their survival instincts in the wild.

"Calm down, return to your Poké Balls for now. If I need to fight, I'll call you." Cain returned them all to their Poké Balls except for Flygon, who remained outside.

He quickly wrote a note explaining his temporary departure and stuck it to his bedroom door. Then, in the silence of the night, he jumped out the window—something that could easily be mistaken for an attempted robbery by anyone unaware of the situation.

Using his psychic abilities, Cain kept himself hovering at mid-height until Flygon arrived just in time to catch him. Flapping its wings gently, Flygon moved without making much noise and headed straight for the outskirts.

The mansion was already on the outskirts of Hearthome City, and by flying a little further, they entered the wildlands, where they no longer had to worry about Hearthome's flight restrictions.

As he flew, Cain checked the virtual map provided by the system to locate the target's position.

"Jubilife City..." he murmured upon seeing the marked location.

Jubilife City was the largest and most technologically advanced metropolis in the Sinnoh region. Originally, the city had been built on top of a massive coal mountain, previously mined by the inhabitants of Oreburgh City, known for its mining industry.

When the coal deposits were depleted, a barren land was left at the summit, where the residents of Jubilife City built this grand city. Many locals from Oreburgh moved there due to its better air quality and living conditions.

Over the years, people from other regions also migrated to Jubilife City, which leveraged Oreburgh's coal industry resources to boost its technology. Eventually, it became the most advanced city in Sinnoh.

"The system must have spent a long time scanning such a technologically developed place. No wonder it took so long to find the target," Cain reflected while flying on Flygon's back through the night sky.

The fresh air dissipated the fatigue from his interrupted sleep.

Considering the importance of the object he had been searching for so long, losing a bit of rest did not bother him at all. He was even willing to abandon the Sinnoh tournament if necessary—though he preferred for both objectives to align.

"System, report the real-time position and keep the range as narrow as possible. We cannot lose the target," Cain emphasized mentally.

"Beep. Target located in Jubilife City. Immediate action recommended. If the target resists, the estimated maximum containment time is three days."

In the upper right corner of the virtual map, a countdown appeared, marking 72 hours remaining.

"Three days... That should be enough. If all goes well, I can still make it in time for the second round of the tournament," Cain thought as he patted Flygon's neck.

Understanding the signal, Flygon increased the frequency of its wingbeats, accelerating its flight. To maintain its energy, Cain took out some Pokéblocks and offered them as a reward.

Fortunately, the distance between Hearthome City and Jubilife City was not too great. Since Flygon was flying along official League routes, the journey was smooth, and they did not encounter any high-level wild Pokémon that could disrupt their travel.

Finally, by nightfall on the second day, they arrived at the outskirts of Jubilife City.

Cain completely changed his attire, opting for a disguise that would not identify him as either a League member or a Team Rocket operative. His temporary identity would be key in handling the current situation.

After returning Flygon to its Poké Ball, Cain entered the city, where artificial lights illuminated the streets as if it were daytime.

Using his psychic abilities, he subtly altered his facial features to make himself less recognizable. Thanks to the continuous empowerment provided by the Unown, Cain had improved his control over his psychic power, allowing him to develop unique and ingenious techniques.

As he wandered through the streets and alleys of Jubilife City, he worked on narrowing down the target's range even further. Although the system had already provided a general location, only close proximity would allow him to pinpoint the exact spot.

This process required patience.

However, for the underworld groups that dominated the city, Cain's movements did not go unnoticed. To them, his presence was a direct provocation to their authority.
