I did some cool-down stretches as the doctor gave me a rundown of the results.
"Before you can continue on without my supervision I should tell you, your performance today and the results of my harsh but helpful exercise today. Seems like you're far better off using more and more to get acquainted with it, though my orders still stand. Do more rests and eat your fill, you need a lot of energy to get used to your new augments and that takes up a lot of your energy." The doctor advised me as usual.
"I always make sure I follow your warnings and advice doc," I replied.
"Sure, but here's a wristband." The doctor handed me a wristband of some sort.
"What's this for?" I asked while wearing the wristband.
"It's an after-hours medical wristband. It's used by the force here for those who want to practice after hours alone. You can say that this is your emergency alarm if anything happens to you while everyone is asleep so that the emergency response team can respond to your exercise injury. I've set up the alarm threshold based on your data so it'll trigger very late when you're pushing it. Though this device has a redundant system that whenever it detects your heart rate stopping within a set amount of time it will override that alarm threshold immediately." The Doctor replied while pointing at the wristband.
"Seems very nice," I replied.
"It sure is. Well, I better get going now I have to finish my report on your fitness progress. And a feedback report to Maxtech about your augment. See you soon Rook be safe while practicing." The doctor waved goodbye as he left the training room.
I guess I'm all alone now with this wristband being my spotter. I wore my earbuds to play some music as I began my stretching again before going full ham on training once again.
[Overclock Ready]
[Power Limit active]
[Level 1 mode]
[Power set to 30%]
I'll stick to this speed first and practice dynamic movement. Left, right, left, up, down, jumping, and rolling. Moving in multiple directions while in this state feels odd and way too different from just running in circles. I am struggling still but it's not much than before.
I did some basic combat training while under the influence of Overclock. Punching, kicking, sliding, and practicing martial arts are what I've learned in the past. It seemed that it felt more forceful since I am moving faster than what is normal.
'I heard that you've become a different person now'
A sudden whisper from behind me made me look back to check if there's anyone out here. Am I hearing voices? It can't be I'm probably just tired from training.
'Oh, yes, tired from all that nonsense you call training'
"Who are you? I don't know where you're at but I'd stop right now before things get hasty."
'No need to be violent Rook'
'I am something you will never see'
'And will never do'
'Unless you want it to'
"What do you mean by that?"
Surrounded by voices I kept hearing around me.
'Scared?'
'Worried that your past might haunt you back?'
'This is just a reminder of who you were'
"IT'S WAS NEVER ME!"
With frustration of the voices I punched the sandbag hard that it exploded upon contact. And with it the voices disappeared... I looked at the mirror near and saw that I was really drenched in sweat. I'll be stopping here for today, went back to my dorm and slept for the night...
The next day...
I was called to the chief's office for evaluation for my actions... I have a feeling I'll be scolded for my reckless actions. I was nervous to enter the 3rd floor where the higher ranking officers stay and the chief's office being on the end of the hallway. It's intimidating to just be in front of the room.
I soon calmed myself before I knocked and entered the room.
"You called me Chief?" I carefully entered the room to see if I'm interrupting.
"Officer Rook glad you're early. Please take a seat." As the Chief was looking at the window.
"Coffee?" Asked the assistant.
"Sure." I replied as I was given a cup of coffee.
The Chief soon turned around as I was getting comfortable on the seat.
"I forgot to introduce myself during our first meeting. Chief Vincent. No need to be nervous you're not getting scolded for your actions a few days ago. Actually I was about to congratulate you for doing so. If not, things would have happened to the children that got left behind there. You actually saved quite a lot of people back there, took out one of their stronger members in the process as well." The Chief seems to be glad about it.
"I didn't realize that it was such a significant impact to the outcome." I doubted myself.
"No need to humble yourself. Actions like that are praised in my books since no stronger emphasis of duty when forced to do something your superior told you not to. Especially coming from a newbie like you, that is something to be proud of." The Chief smiled at me and patted my shoulder for the work.
"Originally I thought I was gonna get scolded hard for making a move to fight even though I wasn't given orders to do so." I replied.
"You worried of being scolded? Well everyone does get worried to get scolded or worst removed from their positions if they disobeyed an order especially from their superiors. I don't know why you're so worried about it here in District 5, we promote better judgement by disobeying orders you know. I believe that any officer who had witnessed something or saw something that isn't right or doesn't sound safe. It's their responsibility to stand up for themselves and do the right thing even if no one is believing on them. Besides how would you trust other's judgement without fixing problems yourself and weighing if your judgement and their judgement is aligned and will help the majority." The Chief went for a serious tone.
"I guess I'm still not used to this kind of freedom since the boot camp." I replied.
"RTR was tough on ya, but this is your chance to prove the system that you are worthy of being a good citizen even if you did horrible things in the past. Criminals may be scum of society but circumstances makes it hard to eradicate the whole criminal problem." The Chief sat down and looked at me.
"I'm always in debt for the RTR Program for giving me another chance in life. I like it already being out of prison and repaying my sins to help those who are mistreated by the world." I replied.
"Well that's pretty much our meeting sorted. Here have this folder given to your superior Officer Weiss. I'm expecting a lot more good things from you, from here on out." The Chief handed me a folder and I walked to the door.
"I'll certainly do my best out here, Chief." I left the office to return to my squad's office.
The door clicks shut...
"I know you will..." The Chief as he opened his file cabinet to grab a file folder with the name.
'[CONFIDENTIAL] Subject: Lost Fragment'
I returned soon to the office with the documents given to Officer Weiss.
"How's the Chief? Very odd right?" Officer Weiss smirked at me as I thought that I would be very much get flamed by the Chief for my actions.
"Hey now let's not get too comfortable this guy still did a wreckless move for a newbie. I suggest he does some punishment work for compensation." Officer Uni wants me to serve some punishment for it which is fair...
"I'd let him do my route of patrolling the industrial street downtown then around the memorial park." Officer Tim suggested his route.
"Sounds pretty good since it does cover a lot of area for Officer Rook to learn. Officer Tim will give you his itenerary and I'll drop you off there to do your patrol." Officer Uni aggred with the suggestion of Officer Tim.
With that I prepare for my first solo patrol around the city.
