Following the encounter, the woman along with the child had agreed with Seb that they would stay the night in the cottage.
"Alright, we haven't introduced ourselves yet, I'm Sebastian, Seb for short and before all of this I was a simple college student." Seb exclaimed, introducing himself to the siblings.
"I'm Kryssa, and this is my brother Luke." The girl, who's name was Kryssa, introduced herself and her brother. The child simply hid behind the girl in fear of Seb being hostile.
Trying to ease the mood, Seb walked to his bag and grabbed a bag of chips and another small bag of candy. Walking back he gave the chips to Kryssa and the candy to Luke. Though the young child hesitated at first, he eventually gave in and started eating the candy.
Meanwhile the girl began eating as well, albeit slowly, her face slowly relaxed. Waiting for the two to finish savoring their food, Seb began watching outside the windows to see if the gunshots had attracted any undead, and unfortunately they did, though the zombies were still quite some distance away from stumbling upon the house.
After a short while, the two had finished eating and they seemed to have warmed up to Seb.
"Ok, since you two will be staying here for the night, we need to talk about the long term… After tomorrow where will you stay? I could offer you two stay here until… well until you find a better place to live, or you can leave tomorrow." Seb spoke.
Seconds later Kryssa finally had the courage to speak, "First of all, thank you for being kind enough for letting us stay, but… We don't have any connections, and you're the only human we've seen since… the outbreak." She replied, a hint of sorrow in those last words.
"Though, we would prefer that we live with you for now… In return, I'd help you clean your cottage, and if there are any, I'll forage some herbs and vegetables nearby. I could also help you patch up the wound on your abdomen a little better, since I am a third year medical student."
Though Seb was reluctant, he had to consider some things. One, he wouldn't be alone. And two he didn't have to do everything himself.
"Ok, I agree… But!" Seb shouted, scaring the two a little bit. "Don't try anything stupid, the guns are off limits, I'll let you keep your revolver since you're already out of ammo, but I won't hesitate to throw you and your brother out if you try anything, do I make myself clear?"
Seb threatened, though Kryssa didn't seem to be scared, she understood why he had to speak in that tone.
"Alright, now that everything, are you two still hungry, I'm planning to eat dinner soon. If you wanna help, you could open some corn and peas." Seb spoke.
He then went back to his bag, got a few comic books and gave them to the kid. "Wow! Metal man and Pirate Canada! These are my favorite characters!" Luke exclaimed in happiness.
While the child was busy reading, Seb and Kryssa had started cooking some food. Today's menu was canned tuna, corn and peas with some bread that the siblings had.
While waiting for the food to cook, Seb and Kryssa had engaged in a conversation.
"So, what are you majoring in?" The young woman had asked. "Well, I'm actually graduating from creative writing next year." Seb replied.
"Oh you're also a third year student then? Cool, that must mean we're the same age!"
"Mhm, I'm 21, you?" Seb replied as he flipped the tuna. "Oh, I'm 20, but close enough!"
Soon, the three had started to eat. After eating, Kryssa had volunteered to wash the dishes. Then not long after, it was time to sleep. Luckily, both Kryssa and Luke had sleeping bags, meaning that Seb didn't have to pull out the mattress in the other room.
As Seb was about to sleep, Kryssa silently spoke up, not wanting to wake up an already sleeping Luke.
"Um… So about your wound, could I take a look at it?" She shyly spoke.
"Mhm, sure, I wasn't really sleepy anyway." Seb spoke as he quickly undressed.
This took the young woman by surprise as she zoned out looking at Seb's body for quite some time.
"Hello? More doing instead of looking please?" Seb nonchalantly spoke up as Kryssa scrambled to her bag, bringing back a medicine kit.
"O-Ok let's see how bad it is…" Kryssa murmured as she slowly peeled off the bandage. As she took it off, she took one look and immediately determined that, "Ok, this needs some stitches."
Seb initially was puzzled since he didn't think that it needed stitches. But he let her do her thing, grabbing everything she needed, she first poured some alcohol to disinfect the wound. Then she slowly started stitching the wound. Hissing everytime Kryssa inserted the needle, Seb was now regretting agreeing to this.
But in no time it was all over, after about 7 stitches, Kryssa had finished. Putting her things back, she returned to her sleeping bag as the two hit the bed.
"Thanks, and sorry for hissing every time you inserted the needle." Seb spoke out as he looked at the ceiling.
The young woman simply chuckled as the two slowly drifted to sleep.
