Sara POV
"Jerry, what are you saying?" My blood dries in my veins as I hear news of Aron's accident over the phone. My feet felt as if someone had grasped the floor.
"Sara, what happened?" Neil looked at me with concern. I felt as though I was at a loss for words when I tried to tell him about the Aron accident. I ran towards the hospital without responding to Neil.
At that point, my mind stopped functioning, so I ran across the street and neglected to take a bus or a taxi to get to the hospital. I started crying while I was sprinting down the street. People, unaware of my situation, were staring at me in confusion. I hope he is alright.
How did he get into an accident? My mind raced with numerous questions.
"Where are you heading, Sara?" Neil trailed me via his car.
"Neil, I have to go." I didn't slow down to tell him the whole story.
"Sara, you will get hurt if you run in this way. I'll drop you off wherever you want to go. Sit in the car." He pulled over and invited me to take a seat in his car.
I paused for a moment after hearing him; he was right; I had to go to the hospital immediately. I sat in his car and asked him to drive towards the city hospital.
When I arrived at the hospital, I inquired about Aron at the reception. She informed me that severe injuries had caused him to be admitted to the intensive care unit.
I burst out in tears when I saw Jerry in front of the ICU.
"How did this accident occur, Sara? He was with you, right?" She looked at me with sad eyes.
"No, he left the restaurant without informing me. I called him many times, but he didn't receive my call, and now he is in the ICU." When I saw his lifeless, blood-covered body lying on the intensive care unit bed, I sobbed aloud.
"How could you let him leave the restaurant by himself when it was your responsibility? Why did you leave him alone?"
She held me accountable for his mishap.
"Jerry, I have no idea why he abruptly departed the restaurant." I made an effort to convey to her what had occurred in the restaurant.
"There is nothing I want to listen to.
If something were to happen to him, rest assured that I would not speak to you again for the rest of my life." She jerked my head away from her shoulder and sat down on a side bench in the hospital corridor.
Jerry's actions made me feel even more sad. Right now, I need someone to comfort me, but Jerry chooses to vent her anger on me instead of offering support.
"We have to perform head surgery because he has blood clots on his brain's left side."
"What?" I looked at the doctor.
"Please sign these documents so that we can move forward with the procedure, as we can not postpone it." He reached over to hold consent papers for me.
"Are you his relative?" The nurse questioned me.
Since our marriage is still based on the contract and our relationship is still private, I was hesitant to tell her that I am his wife.
"Permit me to sign these documents." Jerry grabbed the papers out of my hand as I was ready to sign them.
"Are you his relative?" The nurse questioned her.
"Yes, I am his aunt." After signing the consent paper, she gave it back to the nurse.
I can't believe what I heard a moment ago. Is she his aunt?
"Are you truly his aunt, Jerry?" I felt like someone dragged me from the top of the hill. Aron constantly lied to me while he was having an affair with his aunt. Both of them tricked me. I am heartbroken to learn of their dishonesty. All the moments where I witnessed their rekindled romance played out in front of my eyes.
Since I couldn't talk to Jerry right now, I sobbed excessively while sitting in the hospital hallway's corner. I waited for him to come to his senses so I could ask about his treachery. The ICU opened after three hours, and the doctor told us Aron was safe.
I thanked God that Aaron was safe, and then I took a quick look inside the ICU. He remained motionless on the bed. He had bandages on his head. He has plaster on his left hand.
"Sara, don't worry; he will be fine." Neil comforted me by placing his hand on my shoulder. Seeing him support me in my weak moments, I can't hold my tears anymore. I sobbed aloud as I rested my head on his shoulder.
The nurse informed me that Aron was now conscious and wanted to talk with me. I dried my tears and entered the intensive care unit.
"Aron."
Aron opened his eyes and looked directly into my face. My heart broke when I saw him that way.
"Sara."
There were bruises all over his face. His lips dried, and his voice trembled. I wiped away my tears when I saw him alive. I have numerous questions for him, but now is not the appropriate moment to ask them.
Although the truth I learned was difficult for me to digest, I suppressed my urge to question him about anything at this moment.
"Don't cry, Sara. I know you went through a lot because of me, and you will soon be free of this suffering." He whispered in his weak, slow voice.
"How are you now, Aron?" Before I could find out what he wanted to say, Jerry came into the intensive care unit and started crying.
After seeing Jerry there, I left the intensive care unit because I couldn't stand her presence. She lied to me, and now I'm disgusted with her.
"Sara, you seem tired." I sat on the bench and exhaled a deep sigh when Neil sat next to me and handed me a coffee mug.
"I don't want it." I refused to take the coffee mug because my hunger had already died.
"Come on, Sara, at least have some coffee. You did not eat anything from yesterday; at least have some coffee." He forced me to drink coffee.
I appreciate Neil's help during this difficult time. I hugged him to express my gratitude.
I broke my hug with Neil when I noticed the nurse shifting Aron from the ICU to the private ward.
