His Mother

Sara POV

"How are you feeling now?" I heard an unfamiliar voice around me as I opened my eyes.

"Where am I?" I turned to face my surroundings.

I noticed an unfamiliar room painted in cream color. The smell of fresh lavender permeated the room. Through a large window, the sun beams directly on my face. Even though the fan was only operating slowly, I still felt cold.

My mind suddenly reminded me of the incident with Uncle Joe.

Oh no, I can't stay here; I have to run. In a panic, I attempted to get out of bed, but my physical discomfort forced me to lie back on the bed.

"Don't panic; you are safe here." I finally turned to look at the source of that motherly voice.

This woman seems so familiar to me. I feel like I've seen her before, but where did I see her? I raced through my mind and remembered her face. At Aron's house, I saw her photo.

Oh, so she is his mother.

What would I do if she found out about my relationship with Aaron? I have to get out of here now. I'm worried she'll tell Aron about me, so I can't stay here much longer. I attempted to get up from bed again, but my body felt so weakened that I could not even move from my place.

"Why are you inflicting more pain on yourself when your leg has already broken? For the past two days, you have had a high fever." She stood in front of me and looked at me with a question-filled gaze.

"I... I can't stay here. I have to go." I pushed myself off the bed once more, tripping over it in the process.

"Have you committed any crime for which you want to run away?" When I heard her, my body froze. She will inform the police if she has the slightest suspicion about me. I have to stay here until I fully recover. I looked at my plastered leg.

"Where did you find me?" I questioned her, recalling that I had collapsed in front of a house door before ringing the bell.

"I discovered your unconscious body in front of my door."

Oh, so Aron's mom lives far away from the city. Why is she living in such a small village on top of the hill? Aron informed me that his mom loves to live a lavish life, so I don't understand why she is living in such a small, simple house.

"Thank you, Aunty, for helping me." I thanked her for saving my life.

"You haven't told me yet who you were protecting yourself from. Does someone want to kill you?" I am at a loss as to what to do, but I am trying to avoid telling her lies.

"Because my uncle wanted to kill me, I ran from my house and landed here." I smiled sadly, remembering my pain-filled life.

"Well, why don't you call the police and report your uncle? You don't need to be scared of him anymore; I will help you to punish him." She began dialing the police number on her phone.

Oh no, what is she doing? I have to stop her from calling the police number.

"I can't complain about him since he is a very powerful person." I looked at her in the hope that now she would not dial the police number.

"Why does he want to kill you?"

I had to lie to her every time she asked a new question.

"He threatened to kill me when I refused to give him ownership of all of my belongings." I started crying aloud to distract her, as I wouldn't have the courage to tell her a false tale.

"Please don't cry." She patted my shoulder to comfort me.

"What's your name?" She held out a glass of water for me.

"Sara." I took a sip of a large glass of water to calm myself before responding to her.

"Sara, you can stay with me as long as you want; don't flee."

"What?" I heard her, and I glanced at her in disbelief.

How could she have trusted me so much that she let me live in this house when she didn't even know anything about me? If she finds out that I killed Uncle Joe, she will undoubtedly throw me out of her house. I regret telling her lies. I know I don't deserve her trust, but right now, I can't help but take her assistance.

"Thank you, Aunty." I lowered my head so as not to meet her eyes with deceit.

"Aunty, you live alone in this house?" I looked around to find out who she was living with.

"Yes, I am living alone in this house." She gave a sorrowful smile.

"What happened to your family?" I questioned her hesitantly.

"I got divorced years ago, and after that, I came to this village to live a peaceful life." I didn't think she would respond to me so quickly. I wanted to ask her about Aron, but I hesitated to do so. What if she doubts me? No, no, I can't take any risks now. I wish to avoid making any mistakes that would force me to leave this haven that I have found to spend a few days.

"Who's in your family?" She questioned me.

"My dad passed away two years ago, and my mom is currently in the hospital due to cardiac problems." I told her about a small part of myself, and I felt some comfort. My heart ached from lying to her, but I wouldn't dare admit my transgression in front of her.

"Sara, you take a rest; I will bring soup for you." She left the room to prepare soup for me.

Curiosity made me glance around the room once again. I'm looking for a reason to ask her about Aron because I'm quite curious to hear from her about him. I finally saw a picture of a teenage boy on the side wall.

"Who is he?" I questioned her as she entered the room with a soup bowl.

"He is my son." She exhaled deeply when she saw his photo.

"Where is he now?" Without thinking about the consequences of my questions, my curiosity led me to ask her about him.
