Chapter 43: The Power of Rasengan!

Chapter 43: The Power of Rasengan!

---

"Go, Frogadier!"

For Hikaru, Pokémon battles needed a touch of ceremony. Like Ash's iconic shouts of "Pikachu, I choose you!" or Korrina and Lucario's bond-fueled Mega Evolution poses.

"Fro!"

Frogadier emerged with a confident leap, its sharp eyes locking onto the massive Onix before it.

---

"A black Frogadier?"

Even among experienced trainers, a shiny Pokémon always caught attention. The examiner raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"Begin the battle!"

The enormous Onix's white, piercing eyes snapped open, glinting with cold determination.

Reality made the Onix's towering form even more intimidating than its animated counterpart. Its sheer size exuded an oppressive aura, capable of paralyzing weaker Pokémon with fear alone.

But Frogadier wasn't just any Pokémon—it had survived in a secret realm filled with dangers like rampaging Gyarados. A mere Onix? That was nothing.

"Onix, Harden and then Tackle!"

The examiner didn't hold back, issuing a strong opening command.

Onix's body briefly shimmered with an added layer of hardness. Then, its massive form lunged forward with a terrifying momentum that shook the battlefield.

"Frogadier, use Double Team!" Hikaru commanded, calm but decisive.

---

Hikaru quickly analyzed the situation:

1. Frogadier had a significant type advantage. Every water attack would deal heavy damage to Onix.

2. However, Onix's higher level and massive size posed a serious threat, especially in close combat.

---

Frogadier, with its quick reflexes, created a series of afterimages that spread across the battlefield.

Years of survival in the wild, coupled with Hikaru's tailored training, made its Double Team seamless. Onix struggled to distinguish between the clones and the real Frogadier.

"Onix, use Rock Throw to eliminate the fakes!"

Large, glowing rocks materialized around Onix, spinning in the air before crashing down in a storm of destruction.

Dust and debris filled the battlefield.

"Now, Frogadier! Grass Knot!" Hikaru seized the opening.

Grass Knot—a move that dealt more damage the heavier the target. Against an Onix, it was devastating.

Frogadier darted nimbly through the cloud of dust, its movements fluid and precise like a true ninja.

With a quick flip, it landed on Onix's massive tail. A glint of energy enveloped its leg as it delivered a powerful strike.

Bam!

Onix roared in pain, its massive body crashing to the ground with a thunderous impact that sent tremors rippling across the arena.

"Onix!" the examiner called out in alarm.

"Keep going, Frogadier! Don't let it recover. Use Rasengan!" Hikaru shouted.

---

The 120-power Rasengan, imbued with water energy, was Frogadier's ultimate move.

With lightning speed, Frogadier's clones reappeared, helping it rapidly condense a swirling orb of water energy in its hands.

Despite its Sturdy ability and Harden's defense, Onix struggled to stand, still reeling from Grass Knot.

The Rasengan was almost ready.

The examiner grimaced, realizing he had underestimated Hikaru. His Onix's initial Tackle was meant as a probing move, but it had backfired.

By the time Onix steadied itself and cleared the dust from its vision, Frogadier was already mid-air, charging with a shining blue orb.

---

Boom!

A deafening roar shook the battlefield, but not from Frogadier.

A fiery breath erupted between Frogadier and Onix, stopping the attack just in time.

Everyone turned to see the Flame Gym Leader Zhong Yue's Charizard, hovering in the air with an authoritative snort.

The Rasengan had grazed Onix's rocky exterior, leaving a noticeable dent. A direct hit could have easily drilled through its body, leaving serious damage that even recovery items couldn't fix.

---

"Hikaru, you pass," Zhong Yue declared firmly.

While most participants' battles were evenly matched, Hikaru's dominance was overwhelming.

"Next time, be more cautious with your attacks," Zhong Yue added, giving Hikaru a pointed look.

Hikaru nodded sheepishly. He had underestimated Rasengan's destructive power and its potential to cause real harm.

Still, he couldn't help but feel thrilled at the move's overwhelming force.

---

The spectators, including other trainers and gym trainees, were stunned.

"What was that move?"

"That little sphere… could only be described as pure devastation!"

"Did you see the Charizard? Even it had to intervene!"

"A single move from that Frogadier could destroy most opponents. This trainer is incredible!"

---

"Fro!"

Frogadier leapt back to Hikaru's side, its expression serious and battle-hardened.

Hikaru smiled and patted its head. "Great work. Let's keep aiming higher!"

The bond between the two deepened after this hard-fought battle.

---

As Hikaru headed to the other exam arenas, he found Yuki still mid-battle with her opponent's Magby.

Her Braixen was putting up an impressive fight. Despite the type disadvantage, it managed to dominate the battle with agility and well-timed Flamethrowers.

Eventually, Braixen's Flamethrower overpowered Magby's, securing her victory.

"Yuki, you did it!" Hikaru cheered as she ran toward him, her face beaming with joy.

She didn't hesitate to throw her arms around him, hopping up and down in excitement.

For a brief moment, Hikaru was caught off guard. He could feel her warmth through their light clothing, and it flustered him more than any battle ever had.

Quickly, they stepped apart, both red-faced and awkward.

"…Let's go get our certificates," Hikaru mumbled, scratching the back of his head.

"Y-yeah," Yuki stammered, still smiling shyly.
