Chapter 250: Gengar's "Lesson"?
A girl, as radiant as a blooming lily, was wearing a white short-sleeved hoodie and light gray casual pants.
She leaned against the flowerbed in front of the apartment building, idly playing with the morning glories that had climbed up the door frame.
"I'll add you to your class group chat later. I have something to do, so I'll head off first."
That was the last thing Hayashi Mei said before leaving.
Watching Mei-jie walk away, Hikaru rubbed his nose, then turned toward Sakura with Latias by his side.
A mischievous idea suddenly crossed his mind.
He had Latias activate Stealth Cloak to see what Sakura was up to.
To his surprise, she was just counting the number of flowers that had bloomed.
Finding it a bit dull, Hikaru grabbed the white hood of her hoodie, pulled it over her head, and tightened the drawstrings—completely covering her face.
"Hmm?"
Sakura froze as her vision was suddenly plunged into darkness.
Without hesitation, she called out, "Kecleon!"
Beside her, a Kecleon slowly revealed itself.
However, when it saw Hikaru making a quiet "shh" gesture, it simply disappeared back into stealth mode.
Pokémon that had spent a long time in human society understood human interactions well enough.
Besides, if Gengar hadn't said anything, why would it interfere?
Still…
How had this guy approached its trainer so silently?
Kecleon was confused.
Even Gengar, hiding in Sakura's shadow, was puzzled.
It had clearly seen this kid saying goodbye to Hayashi Mei and walking over…
But then, in an instant, he had disappeared?
Was it Latias' ability?
How terrifying…
Hiding in Sakura's shadow, Gengar made a mental note.
If it ever became enemies with this kid, things would get messy.
Stealth techniques like this were practically perfect for assassination.
As a Ghost-type Pokémon, that was the first thing that came to Gengar's mind.
Of course, that applied to humans.
Against Pokémon, it would be a bit trickier.
"Hmm?"
After waiting for a response and getting none, Sakura became puzzled.
She was sure she had Kecleon right beside her, right?
But now someone was messing with her, and it wasn't reacting at all?
Was it someone familiar?
"Who is it?"
Sakura turned around, reaching forward blindly, but Hikaru gently placed a hand on her head.
"Take a guess."
He had deliberately lowered his voice to tease her.
To his surprise, she recognized him immediately.
Without hesitation, she called out in excitement, "Onii-chan?"
Then, she lifted his hand, pulled the hood off, and saw—
As expected, it was Hikaru.
No wonder Kecleon and Gengar hadn't reacted.
Hikaru feigned disappointment. "You guessed it too quickly."
"Hmmph~ Mei-jie asked me to find someone a place to stay, and I was wondering who could have her personally help. I never expected it to be you!"
Her delighted tone made Hikaru smile as well.
Then, Sakura looked toward Latias and greeted her. "Long time no see, Latias~"
Latias tilted her head and, after being silent for most of the day, finally smiled.
"Long… long time no see."
She wasn't shy around Sakura at all and instead walked over to her on her own.
She really liked Sakura.
In fact, they had their own private conversations that Hikaru wasn't aware of.
Sakura immediately hugged Latias and began pinching her cheeks playfully.
"Wow, your skin is so smooth!"
"Guuu…"
Poor Latias became Sakura's new toy.
Yet, she just stood there blankly, smiling like a fool.
After playing with her for a while, Sakura finally remembered why she was here—to help Hikaru find a place to stay.
Grabbing Latias' hand, she led them inside.
"Come on, Onii-chan…"
She cheerfully pulled Hikaru along until they arrived at a door.
Room 601.
Sakura pointed to the room next door, 602, then to 601.
"This is my room, and this one is yours~"
…
They were living very close.
Hikaru opened the door, and the interior was surprisingly luxurious, with a five-star hotel standard.
Sakura entered first, jumped onto the bed, took a deep breath, and murmured, "So comfy~"
Then, she got up, walked to the door, and leaned against it.
"Rest well, okay? I'm right next door, so don't forget to come play with me~"
With that, she left.
Hikaru watched her go without asking any questions.
Feeling relieved, he collapsed onto the bed.
Latias, seeing this, lay down beside him.
The room fell into silence.
After a long moment, Hikaru turned his head toward Latias.
"…What should I do, Latias?"
"Hmm?"
Latias didn't understand what Hikaru meant.
"Never mind."
Shaking his head, Hikaru laughed at himself.
What answer could he possibly expect from Latias?
Suddenly, the once brightly lit room flickered.
A dark, eerie laughter echoed in the air.
"Kehehehe…"
Before Hikaru could react, Latias instantly reverted to her original form, raising her guard and activating Protect.
Her body trembled slightly as she pressed closer to Hikaru.
Hikaru patted her lightly.
"It's fine."
With his advanced Aura Perception, he quickly realized that the presence belonged to Gengar—the Elite-level one that followed Sakura.
He stood up and looked toward the shadows under the bedside table.
"Gengar-san?"
That was what Sakura called this Gengar, if he remembered correctly.
"Not bad, kid."
A sinister voice echoed, and from the shadows, a purple figure emerged.
Stubby limbs, crimson eyes—
Gengar floated up and began circling Hikaru lazily.
"Impressive. You've got such strong Aura Power, and you still managed to detect where I was hiding."
Hikaru didn't reply, watching the Gengar curiously.
"What's the matter, kid? You seem… lost."
Ghost-type Pokémon were incredibly sensitive to emotions.
And as a high-level Gengar, its ability to sense feelings was even sharper.
Every time it had encountered Hikaru before, his emotions were always clear and confident.
But this time, it sensed uncertainty.
After circling a few times, Gengar settled beside Hikaru.
"Well? Got something on your mind?"
Hikaru hesitated.
"…Uh."
Wait.
Was this sent by Sakura?
As if reading his thoughts, Gengar cackled.
"Relax. I wasn't sent by my little miss."
"I'm here because I want to teach you something important."
Gengar's grin stretched wide, revealing a blood-red tongue…
