Chapter 307: Evolution — Gabite Emerges!
---
After racing down the mountain, Hikaru made a beeline for the Pokémon League Headquarters in Kyoto.
The moment he received his official red Master-Level Trainer Certificate, he finally became a true Master-level Trainer!
---
Back home, the first thing Hikaru did was feed his Pokémon.
Then he summoned Mew to collect some Trait Tokens.
During this time, Greninja kept casting sidelong glances at Charizard—clearly still brooding about what had happened at Jingwu Mountain.
They had all tried to gain insights from the martial arts demonstration…
But only Charizard had managed to break through.
Greninja? It was like a headless fly—completely directionless.
That final scene where Charizard soared through the sky, wrapped in clouds and flames—
Greninja couldn't hide its envy.
That should've been his moment.
The technique was way too cool.
Perfect for impressing the ladies.
Charizard, however, paid him no mind.
He was completely immersed in Hikaru's storytelling.
Meanwhile, Mew—after hearing all about the day's events—seemed unimpressed.
In fact, it didn't want to leave.
Hikaru laughed. In the end, he allowed it to stay for a little while longer.
To Mew, the Qinling Mountains were home.
For most Pokémon there, the mountains were the world.
But not Mew. It had wandered across every region—human cities, secret realms, wilderness.
Now hooked by Hikaru's stories, it had no interest in returning.
Watching over the World Tree all day? Boring.
Left with no choice, Hikaru bought a Pokémon Summon Card to extend Mew's stay.
Still, the cost wasn't a total loss—
In return, Mew's presence generated a ton of Joy Points, making the purchase worthwhile.
Once given permission, Mew eagerly began gossiping about life in Qinling.
"Yu~" (Ever since I gave Serperior that energy cube, it's been standing guard with those three blockheads under the World Tree.)
"Yu!" (But it's so cold and distant! I tried to be friendly, but it wouldn't even look at me!)
Hikaru smiled.
That Serperior really was a proud Pokémon.
And apparently, it was the elite of the elite.
It wouldn't let anyone get close.
If Gardevoir hadn't healed it that day, Hikaru probably never would've had the chance to pat its head.
Eventually, Mew grew tired from all the chatting and dozed off in Hikaru's lap.
After gently tucking it in, Hikaru pulled out Dratini's egg.
Time to begin the long, tedious egg incubation process.
It had been a while.
The last time he'd hatched a Pokémon felt like ages ago.
This time, however, Hikaru had something new: Dragon Mastery.
Dratini wasn't just being nourished by the Aura Force and Verdant Power—
Now it had Dragon Energy added to the mix.
Three forces flowed into the egg in harmony.
When Hikaru activated [Eye of Insight], he was shocked.
---
[Pokémon: Dratini (Approx. 600 hours until hatching)]
[Potential: Champion]
---
"Hmm?"
Hikaru blinked.
Adding Dragon Energy had halved the hatching time!
600 hours—about 25 days.
That meant…
This little guy would hatch in just under a month.
But then a thought struck him.
"Wait—Gible hasn't evolved yet…"
No sooner did he think it than he extended his Aura—and immediately noticed a change in the training room.
Gible's form had transformed.
The once-round, perpetually grinning little dragon had grown leaner.
Its stubby arms were now sharp blade-like wings.
The fin on its back had become more pronounced.
Its eyes no longer gleamed with naive innocence.
Now they burned with fierce spirit.
Very much like Charizard.
Apparently, Gible had evolved quietly while in his Pokéball.
Hikaru didn't rush into the training room just yet.
First, he finished up Dratini's egg care.
After waking Mew and sending it back (despite its pouty look), Hikaru finally entered the training room.
All the Pokémon were gathered around, eagerly discussing what would happen next in the story Hikaru had been telling.
When they saw him walk in, they swarmed him immediately.
"Gaa-gaa!"
Gabite rushed to the front, showing off its newly evolved form.
It swung its bladed arms with pride, cutting the air with audible whooshes.
Clearly, even after evolving, it was still the same spirited little dragon.
Hikaru patted its head with a smile.
"Well done. That was fast."
Then he opened its stats.
---
[Pokémon: Gabite]

Potential: Champion
Level: 24
Moves: Tackle, Dragon Breath, Metal Claw, Mud-Slap, Dig, Slash, Dragon Tail, Sand Tomb, Dragon Claw
Description: Nourished by Verdant Power while still in its egg, Gabite has enhanced stamina and endurance.
---
He hadn't been paying much attention to Gabite's level lately.
But to see it suddenly leap to Level 24 was a surprise.
He glanced over at Bulbasaur, who also seemed stronger.
Now at Level 31.
Though neither had caught up to the front-runners like Charizard or Greninja, their growth speed was impressive.
Considering Gabite had only been born a little over a month ago, and Bulbasaur was captured just two months ago—
Their progress was amazing.
Hikaru turned to leave, satisfied—
But Gardevoir rushed over and blocked him.
"Garde?" (Aren't you forgetting someone? Who do you think raised those two kids?)
She looked up at him, arms crossed in a huff.
Sure, Hikaru had assigned Charizard to teach Gabite Dragon Claw, and Greninja to teach Bulbasaur Leaf Blade.
But those two were fickle mentors.
They taught only when they felt like it.
Bulbasaur had done fine.
Gabite, though—wild and stubborn—was a handful.
Charizard had given up and asked Gardevoir for help more than once.
And now there was an egg.
No doubt, she'd be stuck babysitting again soon.
She looked completely put upon.
Hikaru chuckled and patted her head.
"Alright, alright. You've done an amazing job, Gardevoir."
And just like that—
All her frustration melted away.
