Chapter 312: The Silver Gyarados
As for that impulsive slap just now—
Hikaru could only think, "Well... it did feel pretty soft."
But the moment after he landed the blow, Sakura puffed up her cheeks in outrage and bolted from the room.
"Crap... Did I make her mad again?"
Hikaru considered chasing after her—but decided against it.
Let her storm off. I'll apologize later if I need to.
That thought passed quickly.
He released a bit of Aura and traced Sakura's path back to her room.
On her large, pink bed, Sakura was curled up, face-down, one hand on the spot that had just been spanked, the other gripping her pillow tightly.
"Stupid big brother... bad big brother..." she muttered.
Back in his own room, Hikaru rubbed his nose awkwardly.
But then—
His Aura probe was suddenly "interrupted."
Sakura sat up on her bed, puffed out her cheeks, and glared toward his room.
"Still peeking!? You idiot brother!"
That shout made Hikaru jump in place.
He quickly retracted his Aura.
"Wait... She sensed that?"
Hikaru was stunned.
Wasn't his Aura supposed to be advanced level by now?
Why did it feel so... clumsy?
Maybe Sakura had some kind of secret detection relic?
Before he could continue pondering, Latias poked her head out of the bathroom, now back in her usual outfit—black long-sleeved shirt and casual pants.
Barefoot, she walked over and knelt down in front of Hikaru.
"Hikaru, can you dry my hair too?"
He sighed.
"You could just use your Psychic powers to evaporate it, you know?"
Still, he took a towel and began gently drying her hair.
He couldn't say no—he could literally feel his Joy Points increasing.
And really—who would argue with more Trait Tokens?
By the time he finished drying Latias's hair, it was already around 10 p.m.
Sweaty and tired from all the chaos, Hikaru took a quick shower and climbed into bed.
Latias, admiring her freshly dried hair, glanced at the bathroom again and grinned.
So that's why humans bathed every day.
She snuck into bed beside Hikaru, reverted to her Pokémon form, and curled up like a plushie next to him.
She was becoming more and more human-like by the day...

The Next Morning
After refreshing his Trait Store and finishing his daily storytelling session, Hikaru resumed yesterday's unfinished task—
Finding the silver Gyarados.
Kyoto's weather was fickle.
Bright sunshine yesterday, thick fog today.
The mist wasn't just blocking visibility—it made the temperature noticeably colder too.
"Should we wait until tomorrow?"
Feeling Latias shivering slightly beneath him, Hikaru voiced his concern.
Even Master-level Pokémon weren't immune to the cold.
"It's fine, Hikaru," Latias said with a determined shake of her head.
She knew Hikaru didn't have much time left.
"Alright, thank you."
He patted her head, and she squinted in delight.
Then, a gentle shimmering dome of energy formed around them.
[Protect]
A windproof shield—perfect for high-altitude flying.
Wait a minute...
Hikaru had a sudden idea.
He remembered something his school instructors had once taught—
The best way to break Protect was with either high-frequency attacks or focused power strikes.
The logic being:
Repeated strikes could exhaust the energy maintaining the shield.
Concentrated energy could overwhelm the defense in one blow—though less efficient.
So perhaps this could be applied to training too.
In the future, he could bring Gardevoir or Bulbasaur into the sky and have them practice Protect under harsh conditions.
Between the cold, wind pressure, and Latias's speed, it would be great resistance training.
"I'm flying now, Hikaru," Latias reminded him gently.
He snapped out of his thoughts, quickly fed her a Stamina Cube, and nodded.
"Go ahead."
The thick fog actually helped him concentrate.
With no pedestrians on the roads below, his Aura wouldn't be distracted by stray signals.
This continued until around noon.
Then—
A sudden burst of sunlight broke through the mist.
Some Pokémon had apparently used Sunny Day, dispersing the fog into water vapor.
But it didn't matter.
By midday, while Hikaru hadn't yet finished scanning all of Kyoto's waterways, he had finally—
Found the Gyarados's aura.
"That direction... So it really went to the reservoir."
Perched near a moat, Latias hovered as Hikaru murmured excitedly.
He could finally see a trail.
When they arrived above the reservoir—
Hikaru was slightly shocked.
"Has this place expanded recently?"
It was much larger than he remembered—beyond the range of his Aura sense.
But just barely.
Soon enough, his Aura locked onto the unique signature he had been searching for.
At the center of the reservoir, swimming lazily, was a gleaming silver Gyarados.
Surrounding it were numerous Magikarp.
Some of them were practicing battle moves under its supervision.
"Is it... training them for evolution?"
Was this Gyarados trying to raise an army?
Through Latias's Dream Vision, Hikaru got a clear look beneath the water.
The silver scales and gleaming whiskers of the Gyarados shimmered beneath the surface like living starlight.
Its usual ferocity was nowhere to be seen.
Instead, Hikaru swore he could see a trace of Slowking's calm wisdom in its eyes.
