Chapter 317: League Task App & Youth League Preliminaries

"Hehe, you're the best, big bro!"

Sakura beamed with joy.

"Alright, alright, let's head back…"

Hikaru patted her head with a small smile.

The earlier commotion had drawn many curious onlookers.

A few students unfamiliar with the situation had even summoned their Pokémon, cautiously scanning the skies—

clearly freshmen.

The older students?

They barely spared a glance.

Anyone experienced could tell: that Decidueye had to be one of the school's instructor Pokémon.

Most likely part of some official training scenario.

If it had been wild or unauthorized, the school's security would've responded instantly.

And even if the students had joined in, their odds in a real battle were slim.

After all—

"Small problems? Don't need to run.

Big problems? Can't run anyway."

That said, Hikaru wasn't eager to be treated like a zoo exhibit.

He quickly pulled Sakura away and hurried home.

---

As expected, for the rest of the day, Sakura's dorm continued to be targeted by Pokémon ambushes.

From Decidueye to Beedrill, then Zangoose…

The hits kept coming.

All around Elite-tier strength.

Fortunately, under the constant watch of Hikaru's Aura, each attack was revealed before it could land.

One by one, the ambushes were thwarted and the attackers forced to retreat.

Eventually, even the League seemed to give up.

The attacks stopped.

Sakura, thanks to Hikaru's protection, had smoothly earned her spot as a school team reserve member.

October 30th

Hikaru drew his monthly trait—

A blue-tier [Trait Replication].

Combined with the one he already had, he could now fuse them into a purple [Trait Replication].

If he got one more purple, he could upgrade a trait to red-tier.

And when it came to red-tier traits—

Hikaru only had one goal: [Battle Leech].

Though subtle in effect, [Battle Leech] had granted him hidden advantages time and time again.

If he could upgrade it to gold, the long-term value would be tremendous.

It would allow his newer teammates like Bulbasaur, Gabite, Tyrunt, and the soon-to-hatch Dratini to catch up to veterans like Charizard.

Sadly, the Trait Store hadn't offered anything good since the last [Delta Meteor].

Hikaru began to wonder—

"Maybe I've been wishing for things that are too rare?"

After all, items tied to Legendary Pokémon didn't exactly come cheap.

Now, his Trait Tokens were piling up with nothing to spend them on.

---

The following few days passed peacefully.

Other than attending school, Hikaru spent his time in the Training House—

Helping his Pokémon train

Preparing custom Psychic-type energy cubes for Latias

---

November 3rd

After sending Mew off and finishing his daily story session, Hikaru lay on his bed with a new goal in mind.

He began researching how to become a League Investigator.

It was a unique position.

Even entry-level investigators had rights equivalent to city-level Gym Leaders,

with far more flexibility.

Their only obligation?

Complete a few League-assigned missions each year.

Take Emma Damnson, for example.

As a mid-level investigator, her social status was only slightly below a provincial Gym Leader.

---

Currently, Hikaru was skimming through the League's official site.

The certification process wasn't especially difficult.

But just as Emma had warned—

it was time-consuming.

Step 1: Background check

That alone could take a full month.

Luckily, Hikaru's father had once been an investigator.

This might allow him to skip or expedite the process.

Step 2: Task completion

On Tianlan Star, new secret realms and Pokémon appeared every day.

These brought abundant treasures—but also posed threats to local ecosystems and civilian life.

At first, the League handled everything directly.

But eventually, they realized—

There were just too many small-scale issues.

It exhausted their forces.

Dealing with complaints like:

"Diglett ruined my crops!"

"Greedent stole my dried berries!"

…was a waste of elite manpower.

So the League created the Trainer Task System.

A public mission board, rewarding Trainers with points and merit.

Points: Could be traded for items, money, relics, healing services, or even free lodging.

Merit: A long-term tracker of achievement. It couldn't be spent, but it was vital for promotions.

In fact, many professional Trainers made a living this way.

Hence the term Professional Trainer.

It became a real job.

And to move up—

Merit was the key.

Only by earning enough and completing certain missions could a Trainer qualify as:

A League Investigator

A Gym Leader

Or similar ranks

---

> "Entry-Level Investigator Requirements:

50,000 Merit

Completion of two A-rank missions"

Reading that, Hikaru winced.

"No wonder Emma said it takes time…"

Still—

"Gotta start somewhere."

He downloaded the League's official task app:

"League Task Dispatcher"

Logged in with his personal ID—

And then paused.

His brows furrowed in surprise.
