"No, there's no need for you to respond... I'm not here to cause trouble. I just want an explanation as to why my students were beaten up by yours at that party they attended." Daniel spoke with confidence, asserting his position without being offensive.
"Here we go again, Daniel acting as if he's surrounded by shining stars like his sensei. But I'm not the only one who thinks that ideology is flawed," Johnny said, seething with fury. His own son was learning from Daniel, something Johnny had hoped to teach him himself.
Terry, knowing it would be unwise to engage in a fight with Daniel in front of their students, stepped forward and said, "I believe there's been a misunderstanding that can be clarified without us accusing each other."
"There's nothing to clarify. Everything is as clear as water now that I see more clearly who's teaching these young students," Daniel said, aiming to influence the Cobra Kai students to distinguish right from wrong.
Before things escalated further, Terry approached Daniel with a smile and said, "You're standing before our students, who, as you can see, are too confused by your words and the interruption of their class. How about you change clothes and explain the issues you want to resolve?"
Terry had a plan to handle the situation gracefully as teachers. He knew that while both he and Johnny had problems with Daniel in the past, the future could still improve.
This was his opportunity to show their students how adults should resolve their issues.
"I'm not here to teach or train; I just wanted answers to some doubts I had…" Daniel had no intention of involving himself in anything related to Terry, fearing that past problems still lingered.
"You come before my students and insult us, claiming to teach something better than Cobra Kai's methods. Now you have the chance to prove it to an entire class. If I were you, I wouldn't waste it. Come on, Daniel, show us that reputation you claim to have."
Johnny followed Terry's lead, knowing this was an opportunity to settle many of his issues, especially those involving his son.
"Fine, I'll do it," Daniel replied, angered by the beating his students had received. He would prove to the Cobra Kai students just how weak they were against the techniques of Miyagi-Do Karate.
Without malice, Terry said, "Miguel, escort Sensei LaRusso to the locker room and lend him a uniform to join the combat class."
"Yes, Sensei!" Miguel felt thrilled by the electrifying tension between the two men and stood up. "This way, Mr. LaRusso!"
"No, I won't participate in your strange games."
Johnny, holding back his temper in front of his students, stepped forward and said, "Watch your words, Daniel. Show more respect to my students."
"We're giving you the chance to demonstrate your martial arts. Our students want to know if what you teach is really better than our Karate," Terry said calmly, unfazed by Daniel's sudden appearance.
"Respect the rules, Daniel," Johnny said, keeping his composure.
Daniel smiled helplessly, regretting his decision to come during class time. But now that he was here, there was no reason to leave without learning more about Terry, who seemed to have changed very little.
As Miguel guided him to the locker room, Daniel noticed numerous framed pictures. One, in particular, caught his eye because he recognized the place where it had been painted.
"That's a tournament in China. Max, our top fighter, won that tournament after breaking the pinky finger on his left hand," Miguel said excitedly, recalling the memory.
Daniel nodded without saying anything and entered the locker room. He quickly changed into a white uniform and, after ensuring he looked presentable, stepped out.
Miguel, waiting outside, smiled and led Daniel back to the training room, where the entire class was waiting silently. Despite his personal problems, Miguel was more focused on his school than his complicated relationship with Daniel, who wanted the Cobra Kai kids out of his life.
...
When Daniel re-entered the training room, all the students sat silently around the edges. The atmosphere felt heavy, unsettling Daniel, though he still approached Terry, who stood beside him.
"What's next?" Daniel asked, hesitating slightly.
Johnny glanced briefly at him and replied, "A simulated combat match."
Facing the students, Johnny stepped forward and said, "Many years ago, I had the opportunity to fight Daniel LaRusso—not under the terms I would've preferred, but he beat me. Even so, I've never fully acknowledged his skills, given the circumstances of the final match. I've always disliked how he resolves problems and escalates them unnecessarily. Now he's here, insinuating that our methods are incorrect."
Hearing this, the students admired Johnny's honesty. Everyone makes mistakes, and knowing their great Sensei wasn't exempt only deepened their respect for him as he exposed a part of his life many would rather hide.
Daniel, who initially thought Johnny hadn't changed, hesitated. He didn't know what had happened to Johnny in the years after their duel, but it seemed things weren't so simple.
"Now, since I disagree with Johnny's statements, LaRusso and I will face each other to demonstrate the Karate we teach," Johnny said, stepping onto the mat.
Daniel smiled, noticing the students' eager gazes, but his unease grew at Terry's stern expression. He said, "Haha, I don't think it's a good idea to fight in front of the students."
"You've beaten me once, so what difference does it make if we fight in front of my students—who might even become your disciples someday? You claim Cobra Kai's methods are wrong, but as far as I know, what you've been taught isn't so different," Johnny said, positioning himself on the mat.
Reluctant to fight Johnny again, Daniel finally agreed, seeing it as merely a practical demonstration. Stepping onto the mat, he raised his guard and said, "I'm not sure why you want to do this, but there's no turning back now."
"It doesn't matter…"
Faced with Johnny's fierce attacks, Daniel's expression suddenly grew serious. He began deflecting the blows, but after a few seconds of retreating, he took a powerful hit. Though he blocked it, the impact was still painful.
After dodging a few more attacks, Daniel took the lead, striking Johnny's shoulder and forcing him back. "You've still got that strength from years ago."
"Just a little. Let's continue!" Johnny said coldly, his gaze fixed on Daniel.
The students were mesmerized by Daniel's techniques, impressed by his superiority in the fight.
However, they didn't underestimate Johnny, knowing he often held back during training and hadn't revealed his true Karate skills.
Thud! Thud!
Johnny adjusted his uniform and said, "One last demonstration."
"It'll be the last…" Daniel, exhausted and sweating, nodded. He stared at Johnny seriously and launched a series of straight punches.
This time, Johnny dodged, then raised his head with a slight smirk. Provoked, Daniel advanced with a direct kick. Surprisingly, Johnny didn't dodge or retreat; instead, he counterattacked, leaving Daniel's muscles stunned.
Thud!
The blow, though not exceptionally strong, rendered Daniel helpless. In an instant, he felt his leg give out, and before he could recover, several strikes landed on his arms and muscles.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Within moments, all his muscles were numb. Daniel, who hadn't even warmed up before the match, fell to his knees, his face contorted in pain.
Johnny stood tall, staring seriously at Daniel. Grabbing his uniform, he said, "There's something I didn't tell you—this was a death match…"
"A duel to what?" Daniel looked at the students, stunned to see no reaction from them.
