Michael Kanu sat slumped on the sofa, his face buried in his hands. He finally lifted his head and exhaled heavily. “No one. I didn’t offend anyone, Tolani. I just went to work and saw her picture.”
Tolani froze mid-step. “What picture?” she asked, her tone sharp.
Michael leaned forward, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Adah’s. Someone left her picture on my desk. I thought it was a mistake or a cruel prank, but then I heard someone whisper that it’s the way the ‘Anarch Kidnappers’ mark their targets.”
Tolani’s face turned pale. “Oh God. Michael, why didn’t you tell me this earlier?”
