Move on or Salvage it?

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BE-*

yawn "Fuck!" I rushed over to my room to freshen up for school. Did I fucking fall asleep in my sisters' room? It's now 8am and I'm flipping late. Dad already took Em and Syd to school but didn't bother waking me up? That man has something against me and- wait, I think he did wake me up but I drifted off to sleep afterwards. That doesn't matter anyway.

I was sitting with Gavin and there was no sign of Magnus in the Cafeteria. Not that I cared about him or anything. "He kissed my girlfriend," I said to Gavin. His eyes widened in utter surprise and a hint of disappointment was noticeable through his furrowed eyebrows.

"What?!" He quickly covered his mouth with his hands upon realizing how loud he was. And he had food in his mouth which he just turned into a projectile that nearly got into my unzipped backpack.

"Dude, Relax. You hurled your spaghetti inches from my backpack."

"Sorry," He muffled through his hands. "It's noodles though." He mentioned.

I covered my food with my hands even though it really wasn't a good protective barrier. I shot him a disapproved glare and remarked "I do not care."

"Sooooo... You're telling me Magnus and your ex-girlfriend had some smooch fest while you weren't looking? And dated? Like... For real? For real?"

"For real, man. It's messed up. I trusted him. And her too. Both of 'em thought it'd be a very good idea to break that trust."

"And the relationship." We both sat there trying to process everything but each time I did, it only made me feel angry and betrayed. I have every right to be. But at the same time, I just wanna call them and hope I could be experiencing a prolonged prank. Is that too much?

Gavin grabbed his phone and started dialing someone and I just had to make sure it wasn't who I had in mind.

"Gavin... who are you calling?"

"Fuckin' Magnus. He can't run after what he did to his own friend. I'mma make sure he doesn't get away with this."

I felt kinda good that he wanted to say something to Magnus but I really had no energy for drama at that moment so I called him off. "Don't," I said. "Not here. I really don't want you roping me into the battle of truth and denial right now." I just realized I hadn't taken a bite out of my damn lunch. At least it's just some snacks. I'd save them for later.

He ended the call, put his phone down, and nodded "Okay." His eyes swept the Cafeteria and it soon landed on Magnus. He sprang up from his seat and pointed into the distance. "There he is!" He exclaimed. "I'm gonna talk to him. Don't try to stop me cuz' he is also my bro. I need to call him to order and fix us."

"But-"

"Nah. No buts. You're coming with. Just gimme a few mins to finish this..." He slurped his food hastily and soon enough, I was in a seat next to Magnus in an empty classroom. It was so awkward for me and most definitely for Magnus too. Gavin questioned Magnus and he didn't deny anything. It's expected since I was there to counter anything he had to say.

"Explain to the group why you did what you did. We all have a reason for our actions, don't we?" Gavin stated, his face portraying intensity. There's hope in his eyes that our friendship can be salvaged- the same hope I have too. I know it would be a mistake if I told anyone to keep hanging out with a person who steals their girlfriend. I'm making a mistake being here but I can't seem to ditch my friend that I practically grew up with.

Magnus sighed, burying his head in his hands. "Look. I had feelings for her too, okay? I didn't know how to tell Julian about it. So, when she told me she was into Julian after taking a break from our relationship, I knew the chic was just tryna make me Jealous."

Gavin stood in front of us, his gaze shifting from me to Magnus. Mine fixated straight ahead, clearly avoiding contact so I don't lash out. The silence in the room made his explanation audible and I was desperately seeking a distraction but my ears had a different intention. He continued, "Julian looked happy with her and all that. Her plan worked and I wasn't having it. I told Julian she was a cheater who had tried to hit on me. Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt anyone."

His words made my blood boil, and I almost lost it before getting interrupted by Gavin "You told me that after she fucking dumped my ass, you piece o-"

"No... Chill out. Let the man finish." I furrowed my brows in anger and folded my arms following my rapid foot taps. I really wanted to say a few words but I restrained from running my mouth.

"Dude. You gotta understand that we were in love before she decided to make you a back-up boyfriend."

"I'm sorry, back-up boyfriend?"

"Yeah, man. That's all you ever were to her. No offence by the way. I'm just being truthful. I was hoping you'd appreciate my honesty."

"You arrogant motherfucker." I jumped out of my seat, eyes locking onto his with a glint of fury in them. Gavins' attempt to calm me down failed. I went on, "Why would I appreciate an asshole. The kind that does despicable things to his best friend out of Jealousy. You sent that message through her. You knew the game the bitch was playing and you let me get roped into it."

"I did no such thing. It wasn't my fault, buddy. She never loved you like you pictured. I couldn't terminate our friendship because of some stupid girl. Life's unfair and you shouldn't sulk in a corner. I apologized-"

Before he could finish his sentence, I hurled my fist at him, and it connected with his face, throwing him off his seat and into the tables behind him. Magnus saw red, and was yelling at the top of his voice, "Hey! What the fuck was that for?!"

Gavin quickly stepped in, separating us from escalating things further. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. That's enough," He said, using his arms as a barrier to place Magnus and I apart. He continued, "You didn't have to make this a fist fight."

"He didn't have to talk like an asshole." I spat. And with that, I walked out of there feeling my heart ache with anger and sadness. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I walked through the halls. I didn't care that eyes were fixated on a crying boy, clenching his fists and keeping his head down without hiding it in his arm. Nothing mattered to me at this point in my life.
