"How was the tour?"
Kael's voice was the first thing to strike her ears the moment she reentered the bedroom.
"What is he doing here?" She wondered,
"Doesn't he have political issues to attend to?"
She had hoped to return in silence, to sit by herself and wallow in the ache of what she had just seen in the fountain. But instead, there he was, Kael, the ever-watchful demigod, seated like a scholar at the reading table. He wore glasses now, and the thick, ancient book in his hand added a poetic aura to his otherwise cold and dangerous presence.
"I...It was great," Anna lied, forcing a smile onto her lips as she avoided his gaze.
"I saw a lot of places. And... well, I must say, this palace is beyond beautiful."
"What do you expect of the ruler of this realm? To live beneath a rotting shed under moonlight?" Kael said, his eyes still fixed on the text before him.
"It's beyond my imagination, that's all I meant. "Anna sighed softly.
