KARLIAH POV
Since it was almost closing time, I went to spend the last remaining minutes with Lucas as he was wiping the counter.
Once he saw me, he smiled at me.
"I see that you're done with your night shift duties, unlike me."
I nodded quietly.
"Yeah, it's been a busy day, but we only have a few minutes left, so don't worry; we'll be leaving soon."
"Of course, but I'm not worried about that."
He suddenly looked nervous.
"Well, you know this weekend it's gonna be a holiday, and we won't be reporting for work, so I was wondering if maybe you could go out with me."
"Oh, like a date?"
"Yeah, something like that, but you don't have to think of it that way; we can still go as friends. Karliah, losing our friendship is the last thing I want to risk right now."
He looked sad.
"This was a mistake. Maybe you should forget about what I said; it's a dumb idea."
I placed my hand on top of his.
