Chapter 23

KARLIAH POV

For a moment, it felt like time had come to a standstill as a gasp of shock escaped my trembling lips.

"Let go of my hand."

I recognized the man who had saved me from the wrath of my boss. He was the guy who was at the bar, one of Nick's friends.

The guy smiled.

"What's the magic word?"

My boss stared at him in disbelief.

"I don't have time for this!"

My boss glared at me.

"This is all your doing," he muttered angrily as he rubbed his hand.

"You're fired, Karliah, and you should never show your face around here."

"Sir, please..."

But he was already gone. Angry tears blurred my vision, and a painful sob escaped my lips.

I can't believe that I lost my job. How on earth was I going to pay for my expenses?

I turned to look at the man who had saved me from my boss's anger.

This was all his fault. If he hadn't intervened, none of this would have happened, and I wouldn't have lost my job.
