Alexander broke away from the hug, his eyes scanning Anna's face with concern. "Why are you crying?" he asked, his voice soft yet laced with suspicion.
Anna quickly wiped her tears and forced a weak smile. "It's nothing," she said, shaking her head. "Just tired, I guess."
Alexander didn't look convinced. "The maids told me you haven't been eating well," he continued, his gaze unwavering. "They also mentioned that you fell sick last night. Anna, what's going on? You went to the hospital this morning. What did the doctor say?"
Anna's heart pounded in her chest. She hadn't expected him to ask about the hospital visit so soon. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she forced herself to remain composed. "It's nothing serious," she lied, avoiding his eyes. "Just a minor infection. The doctor said I'll be fine with rest and some medication."
