Tanin stirred awake, her body feeling the weight of her pregnancy more than ever.

Her hands instinctively rubbed her large belly, feeling the tiny movements within. A soft sigh escaped her lips before she opened her eyes.

Beside her, Damian was sleeping soundly.

For a long moment, she simply stared at him, watching the slow rise and fall of his chest. Dark circles lined his eyes, and exhaustion was etched into every part of his face.

She pitied him.

For the past four months, she had made his life a living nightmare.

Waking him up in the middle of the night just to watch her cry, sending him on impossible errands, making him redo meals five times over because her cravings kept changing—

She was draining him.

And yet, he never complained.

A pang of guilt settled in her heart, but she quickly pushed it aside. It wasn't like she could help it—even she didn't understand her body anymore.
