She had been so lost in everything happening that she had nearly forgotten her pups.
A sharp pang of guilt twisted in her chest.
"The pups…" she whispered, her voice filled with regret.
It was almost noon, and they hadn't eaten yet.
Without another word, she bolted from her chair and hurried up the stairs. Damian was right behind her, his long strides effortlessly keeping up.
Her heart pounded as she rushed down the hallway, her bare feet padding against the cool marble floors.
As soon as she entered the nursery, she saw Lucian kicking and wailing in his crib, his tiny fists curled as if demanding attention. His little face was scrunched up in distress, and his cries pierced through her like a dagger.
Beside him, Caius stirred restlessly, and Selene let out small whimpers in her sleep.
She had let them go hungry.
