Chapter 159: The Hunters in the Dark

The footsteps echoed through the stone corridors, steady and purposeful. Damien didn't move, didn't breathe, his steel-gray eyes locked on the doorway leading out of the archive's lower chamber. The others stood frozen around him, their hands tightening on weapons, their bodies coiled with tension. Whoever was coming wasn't here by accident. They had been followed.

Erynn slowly rolled up the ancient scroll, tucking it into her coat. "If they know we're here, we can't let them take this."

Dante pulled a dagger free, tilting his head slightly toward the door. "How many?"

Carys closed her eyes for half a second, listening. Then she whispered, "Six. No—eight."

Amara smirked, spinning a blade between her fingers. "Well, at least it's fair."
