Chapter 161: War in the Shadows

The stolen passage beneath the Grand Archives stretched before them, its walls damp with ancient moisture, the air heavy with dust and something older. The blue flames that had ignited when they entered had now dimmed, casting long, flickering shadows that danced like ghosts against the stone. The silence left behind by the Abyss King's departure clung to the air, thick and unsettling.

Damien still held the blackened blade in his grip. Its weight felt unnatural—not heavier than a normal sword, but denser, as if it carried something more than just steel. The moment he had touched it, something had shifted inside him. He wasn't sure if it was the blade's power—or if it was something else. Something watching.

Carys led the way, moving cautiously through the tunnel, her sword still drawn. "We shouldn't stay here," she murmured. "If the Silent Order sent assassins once, they'll send them again."
