Chapter 24: A Dance of Feelings

The ballroom glittered with chandeliers, casting warm light over the nobles as they swirled in elegant patterns. Eleanor found herself trying not to stumble as she danced with Duke Victor. She could feel the weight of countless stares, whispers traveling faster than the music. Her hands trembled slightly as she stepped in rhythm with him.

Victor noticed her unease and smiled gently. "Lady Eleanor, you're far too tense. Are you worried you'll step on my feet?"

Eleanor let out a small, nervous laugh. "Perhaps I am. I'm not used to being the center of attention like this."

"Ah, but you carry it so well," he said warmly. "You stand apart from the rest, and that's rare in a court like this."

Eleanor gave him a sidelong glance. "You make me sound far more interesting than I am, Your Grace."

He chuckled. "Humility, too? Truly, you're a mystery."
