Ch 83: Believe in yourself - Part 2

"I..." Linus faltered. He had no answer, but his guilt refused to subside.

Fenrir leaned forward, his voice soft yet commanding. "Listen to me, Father Linus. You are a servant of God. You have devoted your life to His work. It is not your place to take responsibility for the sins of others. The villagers made their choice. They turned their backs on the temple, on their faith. That is their burden to bear, not yours."

Linus looked up, his eyes filled with doubt. "But I am their shepherd. It was my duty to guide them, to protect them from falling into sin."

"And you did your duty," Fenrir replied smoothly. "You tried to reason with them. You pleaded for peace. But they chose violence. They chose chaos. That is not on you."

Linus shook his head, his voice breaking. "It doesn't feel that way. It feels like I failed."
