They were back at HQ and Austin and the girl were in two separate interrogation rooms.
"Give me five minutes alone with her" said Harry.
"No, she's the murderer, case close. With time, she'll reveal the names of her fellow accomplices" replied Joshua; he was out of the suit and was now wearing a yellow T-shirt with the words 'body of a god' written on it, with a pair of green shorts.
"What if she doesn't speak, then what?" Harry asked.
"We have our methods...." Joshua replied.
".....besides I can't risk you pulling out another surprise card from your sleeves again. Tell me something, what do you think would have happened to you if I hadn't seen the note you left on my desk?" He asked.
"I would have worked out something" Harry responded.
"Right, the same way you work your rage on non complying suspects? No, Lucy will take it from here, thanks for your service." Joshua said as he made to leave to his office.
"Lucy?! What, is she going to ask her nicely to reveal her friends location?" Harry said with a fit of anger.
"It's just going to be a waste of time and you know it"
Joshua stopped walking, thought for a moment and sighed
"Fine, but you have just 10 minutes with her" he said.
"I also need a few minutes with Mr. Ti too" Harry said.
"Sure, knock yourself out" Joshua said and then gave a signal to the two guards at the entrance of the two opposite interrogation rooms. Harry understood the signal and made for the room that held Austin.
He walked into the room where on a Iron chair, Austin was sitting with his hands cuffed in front of him and his legs cuffed to the seat. He leaned forward with his elbows resting on the wooden table in front of him.
"Hello" Harry said.
Austin looked at him, his faced glowed red, Harry couldn't tell if it was due to the beating he received on his way here by some agents or he was just furious for being tricked so easily
"Bravo" he said.
"I never expected to be tricked so easily by an agent. So who was the man you sent to follow me all day?" Austin asked.
Harry took a seat that was leaning on the opposite side of the wall from Austin and dragged it closer to where Austin sat.
"He's the boy that delivers paper every morning, but you won't know that because people like you are more interested in the news that doesn't affect your daily living than the persons' living with you" Harry said after taking a seat.
"If you're expecting me to talk then you don't have the slightest clue what you're involved in" Austin said.
"Oh, I already know everything....they promised you a position in the 'new government' and you were ready to help. What I don't get is why plan to kill your next victim here rather than go to district 2 and finish them all?" Harry asked
Austin stared in disbelief, he wasn't sure if he heard Harry correctly
"what?" he asked.
"I know you're planning to turn it up a notch, but rather than kill a single Organizer, why not kill the whole executives littered all over district 2. I mean killing just one Organizer is not going to help you, because the whole enforcer squad will be tasked with eliminating you guys" Harry said.
"Who are you?" Austin asked.
"I don't think my name would help your case, but you can call me Fisher" Harry replied with an enthusiastic smile.
Just then, Lucy walked in and saw Harry and said
"I thought Joshua wouldn't let you speak to the suspects"
"I worked out something with him, you could come have a seat. Am done here" Harry said as he got up.
"Fisher....I knew a Fisher......a Johnson Fisher, but the last I heard of him, he just got out of a coma and discovered he has some serious brain damages" Austin said as Harry got close to the door.
Harry turned, looked at Austin, pushed opened the door and was about to leave when Austin burst into laughter and said
"Holy shit, it is you....."
Harry now stood by the open door and was now staring at a laughing Austin.
".....tell me, how's the wife and Kid?" Austin asked.
Harry got enraged and dashed at Austin, he jumped over the table and landed on Austin who fell back with the chair and was now receiving heavy blows on the face. Lucy signaled the guards and they came to drag Harry from on top Austin, as Harry was taken off Austin, Austin yelled
"Don't cry, you'll soon join them....you hear me?!...you'll soon join them!"
Harry was taken out of the room and the doors were closed leaving Lucy and Austin inside, Harry adjusted himself, straightened his waist bag and headed for the opposite door. On getting to the door he noticed the guards refused to budge.
"Well, are you gonna let me in?" Harry asked.
The guards look at each other and back at Harry, one was about to utter a word when the other moved out of the way. Realizing his partner had moved the second guard did the same and Harry walked in.
The girl was also cuffed like Austin, except for the fact that her hands were cuffed behind the chair and she had no face bruise.
"Please tell me you're the bad agent" she said as soon as she notice Harry drawing closer.
"No actually.....am more of the guy that doesn't matter" Harry said.
"You ain't getting shit from me" she said.
"Maybe, but I don't really need much from you. I just wanna know why you didn't kill me when you had so many chances"
She kept quiet and just kept staring at him.
"You know what, let's take this from the top. Am Harry, what's your name?" he said.
"Harry? Is that what you go by?" she asked.
"Ahh, so you do know me? he asked.
She kept quiet again, realizing she had given out more information than she intended to.
Harry stared at her; her black long hair almost covering her left eye, her dark skin that reflected the light from the bulb, the silver necklace on her neck with a pendant hanging on it. Harry's eyes stopped at the pendant, it seemed familiar to him and she also noticed it.
"You like?" she asked.
"What the necklace?" he asked back
"No my titties, of course my necklace you idiot" she retorted.
Harry sat back and pretended he didn't hear what she just said.
"You could have it, it's yours" she said.
"Thanks for the gift, but no thanks" he said, almost chuckling.
"Its not a gift, I want you to have it" she said.
"What makes you think I want it?" he asked.
"Because you might consider it valuable"
"Valuable??...." he started laughing
"....it's not even real silver, just paint on iron chain" he said
"What, you scared or something?" she said with a devilish grin.
Harry stopped laughing, he got up and slowly walked up to her and took of the necklace.
"Open it" she said as Harry took his seat.
Harry opened the pendant and was surprise at what he saw, it was a picture of himself, a pregnant woman; it was his wife. He looked at her and saw her staring at him.
"...I thought you were dead" she said.
"How did you get this?" Harry asked.
"J...nice to finally meet you" she said softly.
"What the hell is this?! Who are you?!" Harry yelled as he furiously hit the desk. The noise attracted the two guards and they rushed in to stop Harry from inflicting any harm on the prisoner.
"Who are you?!" he yelled as the two guards grab hold of his arms and began dragging him out. Harry tried and stood his ground but his slim nature was not enough to withstand the two able bodied men that were pulling him out of the room. After they pulled him out, one held him back while the other closed the door. Harry, realizing he couldn't fight them, went back to Joshua's office.
"We need to talk" Harry said as he barged in.
"About what?"
"The girl, who's she?"
Joshua looked at Harry and back at the file in front of him and said
"Take a seat first, you'll need it" Joshua said without raising his head.
Harry hesitated for a second and then decided to seat down.
"You know what keeps bothering me?" Joshua asked.
"What?"
"The whole foundation of the government that runs us. I mean, if you want to be an executive you need to be able to provide food for the mass, to be a Personnel you have to be able to provide them with job, to be an Organizer, provide them shelter...."
"And the head provides security, everyone knows that" Harry cut in.
Joshua opened a drawer by his right and pulled out a pack of cigarette
"Please don't start" Harry said.
Joshua sighed and kept the pack back in the drawer
"You know, apart from the letter informing me of your arrival, I never got an official transfer letter" Joshua said.
"Neither did I" Harry replied.
"The girl, what about her?" Joshua asked to changed the topic of discussion.
"What do you know about her?" Harry asked
"Why don't you tell me, after all she's your sister-in-law right?"
"My what??.....hold on, you knew?" Harry asked
"At first, I wasn't sure then I got a good look at her face, the resemblance to your late wife was astounding"
"Was that why you didn't want me interrogation them?"
"No, the reason is far more simpler than that"
"And what is that?" Harry asked.
"You're a loose cannon and I cannot afford any more collateral damages...."
"....tell you what, why don't you go home take the rest of the week off. There's nothing more you can do today" Joshua said.
"But I just started working yesterday?"
"Don't worry, I'll send Lucy to come pick you up when we are ready for you"
Harry didn't say a word, maybe because he didn't understand what just happened, he got up and left. He left HQ and began walking towards an unsure location.
"Sir, may I come in?" asked Lucy, who was now standing in the open door of Joshua's office.
"Sure, did you get anything?"
"No sir, they were uncooperative" she replied as she approached the chair Harry had left a few minutes back.
"Where's Harry?" she asked after she was comfortably seated.
"I gave him a week off"
"Why?"
Joshua opened a drawer, pulled out a letter and handed it over to Lucy
"That is from Eddy, he's currently in district 2" he said as he watched Lucy's dark brown eyes run through the letters.
"What's he doing there?"
"I sent him to investigate Harry"
Lucy read a line that caught her attention
"I don't understand" she said
"What's not to understand, it's written there clearly in ink"
"So you mean to say Harry was never transferred here but is actually lying to us?"
"That's the theory, either that or his transfer is confidential. The problem is, we can't really be certain until I speak to the High Councilor"
Lucy wasn't sure on how to react, she pondered on it for a moment and then said
"Sir, who is Harry Fisher?"
"Pardon?" Joshua asked perplexed
"I..I mean what's his story, where did he come from and how come Eddy and every other agent has heard of this guy?"
Joshua stared at her for almost a minute without saying a word, then he opened the drawer, taking the letter Lucy had left on the desk, he kept it back in the drawer and brought out his pack of cigarette and a lighter.
"Johnson Fisher.....that's what I knew him by, he was one of the best agent in district 2. He was married to a cook, her name was Amanda...." he paused to take a puff of the cigarette he had lit during the story's introduction.
"...Amanda Fisher, they were going to have a child.."
"What happened?"
Joshua got up to enjoy his cigarette a bit closer to his window
"Have you ever heard of General Zed?"
"Harry downloaded some documents about him, but I never asked"
"Did he? That's interesting"
"What?"
Joshua looked out the window
"That he remembers that"
"Remembers what exactly?"
"General Zed is a criminal beyond our capacity, he's an enforcer that went rogue. Harry was young, reckless and ambitious, he taught he could arrest Zed and get promoted. Unlike everyone else he found Zed alright, but during the encounter his partner got killed and he ran back to the precinct....but that was just the beginning of a messed up day" he threw the rest cigarette out the window, Lucy noticed it, she knew Joshua as someone who never threw out a cigarette that wasn't burnt out.
"You must have heard of Amam right?" Joshua asked as he took back his seat.
"Only from Harry's mouth, Sir"
Joshua chuckled
"I envy you..." he said
"...your town here is peaceful compared to where we were"
"Sir, what happened next?" she asked.
"Am getting there" he said as he went for another cigarette.
"Amam.....no one every met this guy and lived, he was a cold blooded serial killer. He was also a trained swordsman......on that day he walked into the precinct and killed all the agents that were in the building at that hour. Unfortunately for Harry, he came in and met the bastard"
"So what, Harry killed him?"
Joshua let out a roar of laughter
"No, not even close.....by the time enforcers came, Amam was gone...Harry was found behind the precinct, covered in his own blood, the investigation suggested that after receiving a deadly cut on the head, he had fallen from the top floor" he stopped again to resume smoking
"When did all this happen?"
"Five years ago..."
"...when news came that he was going to make it, he became known as Harry, the man who lived"
"And his wife?"
Joshua bowed his head
"Her body was found days later, she was tortured and killed by General Zed"
"How do you know it was him?"
"He left a note for Harry, written with her blood" he said as he got up and headed again for the window.
"What happened to both of them...I mean Zed and Amam?"
"They disappear into thin air, some say they must have died but I believe they're still out there"
"What if Harry's hunting for them?"
Joshua turned and stared at Lucy
"I have spent 15 years of my life hunting criminals and I can tell you its nothing compared to what may happen if those two should ever resurface again" he said.
"For our sake let's hope he's not" Joshua said.
Lucy looked at the wall clock on her right and got up, thanking Joshua she took her leave.
Harry had walked 2 blocks from HQ and was seated on a bench by a park; only it wasn't used as a park. It was more of an open field and some kids had fashioned a football net with some wood and pieces of rag and were now busy having an intense game of soccer.
Harry watched the ball move from side to side, but he wasn't really following the game. He brought out the pendant and took a look at the picture, a smile appeared on his face and he tried to hold back the tears that was gathering in his eyes. He brought out the android phone and started going through the file, in a few minutes the football game was over and the kids had started heading home. Harry over heard one of the kids telling the other that it was late, he then looked at the time
"6:30" he muttered.
He looked up, it still felt early but he knew he had to be home by sundown. As he got up he wondered which way would be quicker and decided to ask a man he saw approaching, after getting the directions, he thanked the man and left.
