In a lone village basked under the moonlight, humans and animals alike were in their resting states, preparing their bodies for the next day.
However, the tranquility didn't take long to be broken by a loud sound of an explosion.
BOOM!
The living beings in the village were immediately woken up by the sound of it, startled.
Children cried, women panicked and men grabbed their forks, hurrying outside to prepare for the worst.
Their village has been harrassed by wild animals these past few days, so they've always brought their forks near their beds.
However despite it, the unknown explosion made them scared shitless.
"Kakaka! Fear me humans!" Stepping outside of their homes, the men were met with countless winged creatures, laughing wickedly as their horns gleamed under the moon light.
Their figures flying in the sky, instilling even more fear on the humans for they fear the unknown.
"W-What are they?!" Before someone could answer his question, the human was quickly engulfed in flames as a devil threw a fire spell on him.
"Graaaggh! Help me!" The man quickly fell on the ground, dropping his fork as he rolled on the floor, trying his best to extinguish the flames.
Thankfully, before the flames could escalate and kill the human, a huge blob of water was immediately dropped on him, putting out the fire.
The devil, who casted the spell, was shocked and immediately turned to see the perpetrator.
"Who dares to-!?" His eyes widened in surprise as a spinning orange Tao Mandalas sliced him in half vertically.
The devil stepped back slowly as his other half separated and fell on the ground before the rest did the same.
Not even his huge armor managed to protect him from the sharpness of the spell.
The other devils, still pouring out of the teleportation circle, was shocked by the fast retaliation against them, clearly not expecting it.
On the other side stood several old humans in robes, Tao Mandalas spells on their hands.
"They're here! The devils!" In the middle of them stood Balthazar himself, resolute and determination-filled on his face.
The men and women, old and young sorcerers behind him all rushed forward with vigor, tackling every devils they met on their way.
The devils, surprised and not expecting this outcome, was unprepared and many fell under the sorcerers' spells.
Spells flew around along with limbs and flesh of the devils.
Locals of the village, albeit confused, their bodies were shivering for survival, so they immediately rushed back to their homes.
The devils on the other hand, was finally fighting back, their previously unprepared selves started gaining momentum, fighting back against the sorcerers.
However, despite this, the sorcerers still hold the advantage, much to the confusion of the devils.
'It's really working and they haven't noticed it yet.' Balthazar smiled as he stared at his palm where an inconspicuous rune character is written, powered by his mana.
If was a rune spell created by Chamber, capable of weakening the Demonic Energy in the area, decreasing the effectiveness and potency of a devil's spell.
What makes this rune wonderful is the fact that only the most capable or Ultimate-class devils can sense that they're being weakened by a rune.
"Kill them all!" The devil commander, already sensing that something felt fishy, yelled to increase the morale of his army, all while trying to figure out why something feels amiss.
"For humanity!" Balthazar raised his arms and yelled back in return, pushing forward as the devils, despite their advantage in numbers, counting almost up to a thousand, couldn't fight back against exact fifty experienced Sorcerers whose abilities has been honed just for the sake of fighting the devils.
"RAAAHHH!!" Raising their arms and fists, the sorcerers danced around the battlefield, taking four to five devils individually with ease.
The defenseless locals of the village couldn't help their curiosities and peeked through their windows, watching in amazement as the sorcerers looked like they were losing just by the sight of them being encircled by thousands of devils.
However, not a single sorcerer's life have been lost yet, the only bloods and corpses on the area belongs to the devils.
"Am I still dreaming? Is this a dream?" One human muttered to himself in confusion, however looking at the shivering burned body of their fellow villager who they dragged to safety earlier, they knew that this wasn't just a mere dream but reality.
"Mommy? What's going on?" Inside the bedroom, a little girl asked her mom after hearing a series of explosion occurring from outside of their home.
"….It's…It's nothing. Just go to sleep." The mother cooed her child as she stared at her husband who was peering through the window.
Back in the battlefield, the devil commander finally took notice of the weakened spells and their demonic energies being drained too fast.
"A curse spell? But how can it affect all of us at the same time when we just arrived?" The commander muttered to himself.
He was a High-class devil, almost bordering on ultimate class, and this was the first mission he had received that is given to him personally by one of the Satans themselves, assigning him a massive hundreds of thousands of devils to cause chaos and destroy the humans.
However, he had just started and his army is already being thwarted by a bunch of unknown humans wielding magic.
He, of course, had heard of them but from what he knew, most human magicians could barely even reach the strength of a High-class devil.
So how? How was it possible that with their advantage of numbers and strength, the human magicians were the ones turning the tables?
Shouldn't they, the devils, have the upper hand in this battle due to having the element of surprise?
'I can't fail this. The Satans themselves have placed hope on me in this.' The commander clenched his fists as he gritted his teeth.
'That's right! They're not invincible, they have their limits and even if they're strong, as long as we exhaust them, we can take the victory.' A grin crept up to his face as the commander ordered his army of devils to continue besieging the sorcerers.
"Heh, so what if you can defend yourselves from us? That doesn't mean you can also protect your fellow humans, right?" Confident in his plan, the commander casually said it out loud, just to mess with the group of sorcerers.
However, he was expecting them to worry or at least try to break through the encirclement, instead, the sorcerers calmly repelled the incoming onslaught without any care, almost as if they didn't hear him.
'….Arrogance? Or idiocy? Very well, you think I'm not someone who upholds his words? You'll see.' Masking his anger, the commander shifted his attention to the village from afar.
'Hmm…so they've been trying to draw us away from the village. What a futile attempt.' Snorted the commander as he raised his finger towards the village from the distance.
"Attack! Destroy that village!" He commanded and a few or more so devils started flying towards the village with spells prepared on their palms.
"Kiehehehe!" The devils laughed wickedly as they threw their spells on the village while the others dove to enter the premises.
However, just when they were expecting explosions and such, a golden barrier suddenly materialized as the spells bounced off of it while the devils were repelled brutally.
"What?!" The commander's eyes widened in surprise at this scene, even the humans inside their homes who were peeking at the windows were shocked by this outcome.
At first, they were expecting for devils to barge through their homes and kill them mercilessly as they were preparing to leave sneakily but it turns out, that something or someone is protecting them already.
"Thank the heaven!" Some religious people on the village quickly went to their knees to pray for their Gods.
On the other hand, some villagers were still preparing to leave, clearly not trusting anyone but themselves to protect them.
Outside the village, the commander and the devils were not expecting the golden barrier to appear.
"What is that?" The commander squinted his eyes at the translucent barrier that slowly fades away as if it weren't there.
However his senses were telling him that despite not seeing the barrier, it is clearly still there.
'This just got a bit complicated…' The commander grumbled to himself.
What he thought would be an easy mission was upped and turned hard.
"Kill them all first! One of them must've done it!" The Commander couldn't hold his anger anymore and pushed the blame on the sorcerers who mysteriously appeared and kept ruining his plans.
Balthazar, who heard his loud voice, smirked along with the other sorcerers with him.
Chamber has given them a small stone containing an Aegis of the Eternal Veil rune that could cast a huge barrier enough to cover an entire kingdom.
According to Chamber, they could simply place it on the middle of the village and it would do its work, absorbing the nearby ambient mana to power itself.
Not only that, but also since the rune is carved on a small pebble, it is impossible for one to find it, not to mention, as long as it is strategically placed, perhaps only Gods have the chance of finding it, that is if they could bypass the barrier.
Chamber has put in the work on upgrading the Aegis of the Eternal Veil, risking his blood and sweat on it—just to perfect it.
The barrier was so durable that even Chamber himself was having a hard time breaking it.
He was tempted to call Michael and some of his strong friends to try and break it but unfortunately, as the Great War was getting closer, so was his, giving him no time to fully test its durability.
"It really works. If his plan succeeds." Balthazar muttered to himself in amazement.
However, worry was soon etched on his face. As one of Chamber's trusted subordinate, he wasn't oblivious to Chamber's plan for the human world, to place a barrier that would prevent Supernatural beings that reside on another dimensions such as devils and angels.
He's also aware of the dangers in his plan, which risks making an enemy of almost every Supernatural beings, especially Pantheon Gods.
'Doesn't matter the danger. For the sake of humanity's protection, I'll gladly sacrifice my life for the success of his plans.' Balthazar swore in his heart.
If only his former Master Merlin were to hear him, he would no doubt be proud of what he became now.
