Ch. 89 - The Great War! [26]

At the start of the attack, it didn't only happen on the small village where Balthazar currently is in.

In fact, I think Zekram held back some information as I received from the Spy Birds that I created using Merlin's Magic that would fly all over the world to watch over if there's any other place that the devils might attack.

And one of the places that Zekram didn't told us about is the small village where Balthazar is in right now.

Dammit, I knew Zekram shouldn't be trusted. I guess he thought he was smart huh?

Hmm, he doesn't really gain anything by holding back information from me, unless he wants Lucifer's plan of causing chaos to succeed.

Knowing him, no doubt he would need the plan to succeed for his own plans.

As for the reason or at least what his plan is all about, I have no idea.

Maybe I should kill that guy if I have the chance, he's too dangerous to be left alone, his ambitions are enough to put him on my hit list.

However doing so would make me not only an enemy of the devils especially Sirzechs whom I can't trust for now, but also Serafall and Ajuka.

Sure if I explain to them they might understand my reasons but it would still put a line between me and them, forever painting me as someone they can't absolutely trust.

And I can't have that, especially Serafall. I've grown fond of that wild girl and I would smack myself on the back of my head if my actions led her to hate me.

As for Ajuka, I mean, he's almost my brother, so maybe he won't have me that much and casually dismiss what I did with aloofness.

Putting them aside, I watched through my window as several of sorcerers were quick to respond after my Spy Birds delivered the reports of the locations that was attacked.

They geared themselves up as they relayed the location to one another before opening a portal and jumping in.

Thankfully, some of them have visited the said locations during their time, so they were able to directly open a portal without having the trouble of manually going to the place.

How convenient.

"This is what it feels like to be in a war?" I muttered to myself, I asked this question because I was praying for my good men to survive the incoming chaos.

These sorcerers, old and young are going to a war that I brought to themselves.

Maybe if it weren't for me, they would be oblivious to the war and stay in their own towers, ignoring the outside world.

Or maybe, just maybe, even without my intervention, their humanity would force them to make their move and try to salvage as much humans as they can from the sea of war.

And it was thanks to me that they have someone watching their backs this time instead of facing the devils alone.

God dammit, I sound like I'm trying to justify myself from forcing others to this war.

It's not wrong for me to feel a sort of affection for humans and try to protect them, right? All because I used to be one.

"I should go too and join." I muttered to myself.

Speaking of joining, I should grab my students while I'm at it. They need the necessary experience after all and this might be the best opportunity for them.

Portalling myself to the Sanctum Sanctorum, the children were surprised to see me and were even more surprised when I grabbed the hem of their robes and pulled them towards the new portal I conjured.

"Master? Wahhh!!"

***

Currently, in Great Britain, countless knights were trying to fight their way toward the hordes of devils.

"W-What are they?!" Some knights especially the commanders, couldn't help themselves from muttering in fear and curiosity.

"T-These are the devils! They must be!" A beggar from the street yelled insanely.

"Those red skins, horns and pointy tails! It's as described in the Bible!" A priest, who was running ahead of a mother with her child, yelled while throwing the Bible he's holding towards one of the devils flying in the air.

"Kekeke! And you call yourself a priest? Follower of who?" The devil mocked as he caught the flying Bible with his hand and threw it back to the human priest.

Bam!

The priest's head was smashed against the Bible book, knocking him out unconscious.

Screams!

The battlefield was filled with blood-curling screams of the humans as the devils terrorized them.

Not even the knights themselves were able to kill at least one devil, they were simply annihilated like animals.

Just as the everyone thought they have no chance of winning and are on the mercy of the devils, the dark sky night was suddenly pierced by a light, blinding the humans and burning the devils into ashes.

"W-What is that?!"

"They're here!" The devils who survived the beam of light, yelled in surprise and anticipation.

They're currently the first wave of the invasion numbering up to millions of devils, followed by the second wave with the same number but more High-ranking devils such as the members of the 72 pillars and finally the Third and Last wave, where Lucifer and the Satans would appear.

The job of the first and two waves is to weaken the angels and try to diminish their numbers as much as they can.

Not to mention, they're also here to divide the attention of the devils. A part of a distraction.

Many armies from different clans have conjoined and jointly attacked the strategical locations around the human earth, making sure each attacked location is as far away as possible from one another, to avoid any possible reinforcements during critical moments.

"Kill the devils! Protect the stewards of God's creation!" An Archangel, carrying his holy aura and decisiveness, raised his sharp sword that glints in the holy light before pointing it towards the sea of devils.

If one were to look from up in the sky, the sight below was gratifying and spine-chilling, enough to make even a strong man faint.

The floor looked like it was painted in red, due to the skins of the low to middle-class devils, as if the sea itself has submerged the entire Britain Kingdom, coloring everything in scarlet red.

"Heretics! How dare you taint god's creation with your filth!" The Angels snarled, diving down from the open night sky and started fighting against the hordes of devils.

Clang!

Clang!

Swoosh!

Thanks to the Angel's advantage in terms of Holy Power being the Devil's weakness, the limbs and flesh of the devils started flying around, solidifying the ground and structures in real scarlet red blood.

"They're the angels! We're saved!" The humans, especially the remaining church workers and priests, kneeled on the ground as they shamelessly claimed that their prayers have been answered by God and he brought his angels to protect them.

The Archangel, whose senses are sharp enough to sense how heavy someone's sin is, rolled away in disgust from some of the priests.

He can already tell what their sins are and how foul its stench is.

If it wasn't for God's words to not touch any humans and simply focus on the devils, the Archangel would have basked the sinful priests with his Holy Light and watch them writhe on the ground in pain.

Humans with heavy sins are as vulnerable as a devil in Holy Light.

'Soon, God will smite you all himself.' He whispered under his breath as he engaged on the battlefield, littering the ground with devil corpses.

The devils might have an advantage in numbers as they're in millions while the Angels are only hundreds of thousands but the fact that they wield something that devils fear is enough to balance the war.

Of course, just because Angels possess the Holy Light doesn't mean they're unstoppable, because if they are, the devils would've long ceased to exist.

The devils have long adapted and strategized against the Angels, using their wits and Demonic Spells to even the fight.

Such as taking advantage of an angel's kindness by using an innocent human as a hostage or sneakily bringing the fight near a crowd of humans.

The latter of the reason why the plan involves starting the great war in a place abundant in humans, so they could take advantage of this and gain the upper hand.

And it's working nicely on the devil's side.

Until it's not anymore.

Tens of orange portals suddenly appeared on the sky, putting some parts of the fight in a halt.

Then came an orange-robed masked man, followed behind him are a bunch of little kids.

Although surprised at the sight of children floating in the air, what made them surprised even more was when the masked orange-robed man raised his arm and a huge pressure suddenly descended out of nowhere, putting most of the devils down to their knees.

Through the shiny white mask on his face, two purple orbs coldly stared down on the devils, enough to make them unconsciously release a shiver of fear.

"I am the Sorcerer Supreme and it is my job to protect the humans from intruders. Devils, I will not tolerate your confidence in invading my homeland. Leave before I make you." As soon as the Sorcerer Supreme finished his words, silence ensued in the battlefield.

"Heh. Sorcerer Supreme? Haven't heard of you. How arrogant of you to think that you along with your little flesh of meats are enough to make a change? You are simply looking for a place to bury yourself!" As always, the devils along with their immense arrogance, were the ones who dismissed the Sorcerer Supreme's threat.

The Angels on the other hand, albeit confused, didn't mock the masked man or anything.

In fact, in their hearts, they praised him for standing up against the devils, that's enough to earn their respect for him.

Only the Archangel who was leading the Angels, squinted his eyes at the single figure.

'Is he the human backup that Lord Michael told us about?' He pondered to himself.

"Good answer. I almost thought you'd heed my words." Tone filled with confidence, the Sorcerer Supreme then raised his arms and without saying a word, snapped his fingers.

Snap!

Before anyone could react, the stilled portals that had been idle, starts to get large in terms of size and soon, several towering figures coated in metallic sheens fell down from the portal and landed on the ground, squashing a few poor low-class devils in the process.

The Mystic Guardians, whose been recently upgraded and powered up, has arrived and their numbers ranged up to a hundred.

A small number but if someone were to see them, their sheet size alone would put even the largest animal in the world to shame.

Their towering figures made the devils on the ground to look up just to have a glimpse of its head.

'Kill all the devils.' A silent command was sent from Chamber to the Mystic Guardians.
